Guest Kev Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Help! Ive got a nexus 8 panel alarm which recently "went off" while I was away. It totally drained the battery and blew the 250ma mains fuse and so was lifeless when I got home. Ive replaced the fuse several times but when I do the alram briefly sounds and the fuse blows within 2 seconds. Anybody got any ideas? the fuses are 250ma time delay fuses (although 2 seconds isnt much of a delay is it!) :'(
Gopher Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 By "it went off" do you mean the alarm sounded & for how long it go off, approximatly. When was it fitted and when was it last given a service / check over and when was the battery last replaced. Since it's constantly blowing fuses it has developed a major fault that being eitger the battery has developed a fault or the circuit that charges it has devloped a fault this could cause the main fuse to blow in the manner your describing. I'd seriously think of getting an engineer out to look at it, Im sure there are a number of Engineers in the Stoke area that would be able to help you out and be able to help resolve the problem. Guest Kev Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Yes, my technical term "went off" does mean the alarm sounded B) Not sure how long the alarm sounded for but it did run the battery down as a neighbour confirmed an alarm had gone off over the weekend and eventually proceeded to make some very funny noises (due to the battery failing). The alarm has been fitted for six years....and no its never been serviced, sorry to show my ignorance guys but what could you service? its not like a car with oil or moving part I had subscribed to the theory of "if it aint broke, dont fix it".......that was until it broke. Your comments regarding the panel has probably failed confirm what I suspected.....I was just looking for an olive branch to grab onto Is there any test I can do to confirm its demise before biting the bullet and replacing it ?? Also...ive never changed the battery and it still sounds if the battery is disconnected....if that helps??
Gopher Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 You could check the board for damage - blacken / miscoloured parts on the board or obvious damage to the battery / wiring. Only do this if your confident about doing this and only once you have removed all power from the panel i.e removed the fuse from the fused spur, check you have no voltage going to the panel with a voltmeter , then carefully unclip the board taking care not to damage any of the wiring, it might be obvious right away. Like I say only do this if your 100% confident that if there is no obvious damage you can replace the board back in without damaging anything. Just take note of rjbsec's signature about 240volts.
