Guest Waddy
I have an existing Menvier TS510 system (5 PIRs, 2 contacts & remote keypad) which works fine but I want to extend the system to cover a garage/annex building and possibly a shed. I also want to add some features such as: speachdialer, panic attack, keyfob or proximity device and smoke detectors The garage/annex is about 30 metres from the house and it will be a big/expensive job to trench in any cable. I'm looking at about 10 intrusion detectors (which I would like to configure into at least 5 areas for partial set configuration) and 3 smoke detectors. I've seen the majority of advice is to go hard wired over wireless - which I can understand but it is not economic in my case. I've had 3 quotes ranging from
Guest rjbsec
What you are asking for appears to me to be stretching things for a DIYer. Initial thoughts are that you need to find a friendly and helpful local engineer, possibly a one-man band who has the time to listen to what you want and the flexibility to do it to your spec (within the limitations of reg's). Probably not what you want to hear but it's my honest advice.

Is the question of locally wiring the garage/annex with a single tx/rx point feasible and with what brand of kit? (just so I know if I'm getting a straight answer). It's feasible but what do you do when you get an alarm activation and you don't know which detection device caused the problem because a single wireless transmitter doesn't provide you with that information? Everything that you want can be done but IMO is not a job for a DIYer, not because I'm being protective of my profession (and I don't operate in Bedfordshire) but because the setup will be complex and you want to avoid problems such as the above. I could recommend kit but it wouldn't be for DIY installation.
secboy
Simplest method for diy ----2 x separate hard wired systems(keep existing) with scantronic or visonic radio link(Two channel if you want separate pa signalling) separate menvier dialer(not cheap but solid). Good points --- keep existing controls purchase 2nd domestic controls only radio is link powered by controls not battery bad points--- If 2nd alarm triggered must view at 2nd alarm cannot control all system from one point as stated purchase of gear and install may be tricky for diy Hope thats helped!!!! QFA to the above, the gardtec CPX has a built in version of a voice dialler, having 8 loop zones or 9 if end of line ressistors (zone 9 is the tamper pair) are fitted out of the box. it will allow an additional 8 radio or wired zones a well as remote setting from upto 8 fobs, but i'm not sure if Gardtec wil sell to non-trade regarding the receiver and radiio pir's. having 'all set' and 3 part sets allows flexibility, and the VoCom will identify which circuit and what condition, i.e. alarm, fire. pa etc. i too ere on the wired side but accept it's not always practicle, Gardtec Radio kit programming is a litle bit taxing at first use, as is the general panel programming, so you are well advised to get a competant engineers assistance to gain maximum benifit of its abilities. despite my reservations about radio detection i have found it so far to be very reliable. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!! I thought of just adding a new system in the annex. The main stumbling point is not being able to trigger the dialer (in the house where the phone line is) from the annex (with no phone line). Does anyone have a suggestion?

Does anyone have a suggestion? The radio link triggers the main alarm as 24hr circuits and you use the output programming to trigger the dialer at the main panel as required !! see how it starts to get complicated for diyers waddy? Guest Waddy
or use the additional triggers via the link on the dialler then you would know which system had activated Thanks all for the advice - looks like I need to contact some more installers.
