Gardtec 800 Problem

Same as before with correct title spelling

Hi

I hope somebody on here can help me. I have Gardtec 800 monitored alarm system.

Earlier today there was a power cut in my area which was restored within hours.

When the power cut happened the external bell box alarm sounded for a few seconds and then stopped.

And the alarm looked to be normal, with Un showing on the control panel.

Now I have just tried to set it this evening but I get message showing "PL" on the display of the control panel, but the alarm does still set.

I checked the user manual and it says PL stands for "phone line (if Digicom fitted) ".

I am able to use my phone as normal without any problems, so does this mean that my alarm is no longer being monitored?

There was one other point when the power cut occurred and I tried to call the electricity company (roughly 5 minutes later) to report it, I could hear nothing but beeps on the phone like somebody was trying to dial a number, the phone connected fine to the electric company but throughout my conversation I could hear very loud beeps similar to the sound you would hear from a touch tone phone.

The phone is now fine (no beeps). Pl problem still there.

Any advice on the PL problem, my alarm company is absolutely useless one man show who has gone on holiday and left nobody else in charge. Really really poor service not sure if there is a large company out there that would take over the servicing and maintenance of my system, people seem reluctant as they wont get the full fee for installation, if anyone knows of any companies around Harrow Wembley area who could take it over please let me know.

Thanks for any advice that you may have.

It sounds like you may have a dead digi. At the very least you will ahve to perform a full soft restart on the system .

Not something I would advise for someone with little Alarm knowledge.

I recomend hitting the yellow pages in the hope that you can find someone willing to help.

You my be able to unlock the digicam if you have PAs on the system .

If so place the system on test ( with the monitoring co) and activate a PA . wait a few mins after you place on test.

Once done reset the PA and check the phone line is clear of beeps.

If you need more Info I will be logged on to this forum from about 9:30 tommorow .

Hope this helps.

Also phone the monitoring station and ask them if you are still being monitored, as if your alarm company has not paid the bill the digi on your system will not get any acknowledgement for the monitoring station so it will keep dialling up to 10 times.

If your alarm company is as you said, then take rjbsec advice.

No PMs please unless i know you or you are using this board with your proper name.

It has been known for those panels to get stuck with a recurring PL fault long after the fault has cleared, but a panel restart maybe required to clear it. If that is the case then all might still be working.

You can follow Security Consultants advice and test the system's signalling after putting it on test at the alarm receiving centre.

And definitely get a new alarm co!

hi john,

as others have said you seem to have a digi fault which is rare if the gardtec didgi/modem is fitted.

Pl is indicating a loss of the phone line. you could move to another installer but they most likely will need to upgrade your panel to the latest standard DT254 = so more expense involved, and given response time possibly no quicker than waiting for your guy to come back.

if you still wish to change installer then post you location (not full a/d) and someone will contact you from this site i'm sure.

Can you explain the requirements for this Standard please Alan as I am not familiar with it.

Let's not get into an argument here guys - Alan, your information is a little incorrect as Colin is pointing out.

John1237, your ARC won't be able to tell you if the line is OK but should be able to tell you if the your monitoring contract is live. For you to have monitoring (and I assume police response) your maintenance company must be either SSAIB or NSI approved. If that is the case then it should not be possible for the alarm guy to go on holiday without leaving an engineer to cover emergency calls.

ooops! DD243 dislexia strikes again or was that after  a caller at front door while typing

it seemed only fair to advise him of changed standards for monitored systems, he has an LED keypad on a G800 panel (which Gardtec is phasing out). given its assumed age the software will be old, so even you would need to upgrade it  .
