john1237 Posted September 13, 2006 Author Posted September 13, 2006 Hi Further to my posting on here about my Gardtec 800 PL fault, I have decided to change my alarm company as two weeks on my alarm still isn't being monitored and my alarm company are frankly rubbish! So that I don't screw up again, here's what I have been told by some of the companies that have given me a quote, They say then actual motion sensors can stay but they will need to change the keypads and main control panels. However they noticed that my old alarm company had simply linked my alarm to the phone line by basically attaching it to the main bt socket in the house so you have a wire trailing from below the same socket to which my home phone is connected to. They say I need something called a bt block terminal (of the existing line) installed in the garage where my main control panel is. Questions: Does this sound normal? How much is a block terminal and do I have to call bt to install it as they say, or do the alarm companies do it? Also I have mentioned to the companies that I have broadband and they say all they need to do is make sure there is a filter in the control panel? Thanks again for any advice.
Service Engineer Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 Now I have just tried to set it this evening but I get message showing "PL" on the display of the control panel, but the alarm does still set.It will, the first setting attempt it doesn't let you set the system so as to draw your attention to the fault, ignore the fault for now because you still want to set, if you then try to set again it should let you.?They say then actual motion sensors can stay but they will need to change the keypads and main control panels. This is normal practise if the new company is locked out of engineering, but they could just change the panel like for like and re-use the keypads. Unless you have lost your police response or the new company is switching your monitoring station and nees to aply for another URN, in that case they will need to make your system compliant with the latest standards which will mean a new panel, keypads AND detectors. They say I need something called a bt block terminal (of the existing line) installed in the garage where my main control panel is.It is very good practise to have a block fited for any type of monitoring that uses the phone line and yes BT should fit it, but I have known some companies fit there own. Even better would be a dedicated phone line for the alarm system.!.JOHN, PLEASE REFRAIN FROM POSTING THE SAME MESSAGE TWICE. OTHER POST REMOVED.! ........................................................ Dave Partridge (Romec Service Engineer)
