integrafire Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 I was working on a large residential development in london near battersea on some exclusive apartments about 10 storeys high. One of the plumbers was working on a 6" feed in the basement mending a broken join. He opened the valve for that branch a bit quick and all 8 1 bar booster pumps fired up to compensate fot the pressure loss. This caused the new join to rupture again. He panicked and called the boss over who also panicked and slammed the branch isolator shut again. Anyone who knows about booster systems knows this is a very bad idea.8 bar of pressure went flying through the entire pipe work system in searc of a weak spot. It found it in the 10th floor riser by the penthouse suite. The water found its way under the false flooring and down every hole and crack it could find. There was a waterfall flying off one of the balconies about 6 foot wide and down 10 floors. Unfortunately a lot of residence had already moved in and nearly every apartment below had suffered some form of water damage. The building repair estimate alone was near the 1 million mark not including property damage. Good day at the office dear. :'(
