Guest KillingTime Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 Hello, I've just finihshed installing a Texecom Premier 24 and com2400 set to send SMS messages to my mobile. Everything works. While I was testing the system (trying to get it to generate sms messages) and I picked up one of the phones in my house to see if the modem was dialling out. I heard the modem handshake and replaced the receiver. Because of this, the call to the message center failed - no SMS was sent. I know I can configure the alarm panel to re-try the send (max redails) but it occurred to me that a burglar might try the same thing; get into the house and lift the receiver on the nearest phone before searching for the main panel box to smash it up. What can be done to stop an off-hook phone disrupting a dial out by the main panel? I know other alarm manufacturers have a facility on their panels whereby the telephone out jack is disconnected when the alarm tries to dail out, meaning all your phones go dead. But I dont see this facility on the com2400 (correct me if I'm wrong). Is there an external disconnect for phones that can be bought to do the same thing? Thanks, Ben. P.S. I've searched the forum for an answer to this, with no luck. If this has been answered before, any link would be appreciated....
Guest Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 if this panel is like others i have worked with, take the incoming line to the panel and then send rest to you household phones. That way the panel will "snatch" the line.
Guest Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 nah line cut before break in...... Yep, i agree. However that wasnt the question. Gsm is better.
Guest KillingTime Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 Following your posts, I re-read the manual that came with the modem, and it does say that all serially connected equipment will be disconnected during dial out to prevent interference.....should have RTFM properly. With regard to the line cut, I agree. Luckily for me, the tel line comes into the house underground (it does now anyway...) Other people are not so lucky. They have their junction boxes on the outside at ground level. You only need a screwdriver to access it and you can start making calls. I've asked BT about a secure JBox before now and they're just not interested. Many Thanks, Ben.
