Guest wilburpig Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Hi, I wonder if anyone can advise. We have moved into a house with an alarm system, a Scantronic 9600, and this evening the interior alarm went off. The display panel says "system reset battery fault". Each time it happens I punch in the code but it happens again between 5 and 30 minutes later. I phoned an engineer who advised for now to remove the front of the panel and take out the battery, and then get someone in at my convenience to sort it out. However,, when I took off the front there is a circuit board but no battery on view. What do I do now???

Guest wilburpig Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Thanks for the reply, The battery isn't missing, it's just a flat circuit board, the battery may be behind it but i really don't know what I'm doing so I don't want to make things worse!! Could the battery be in the unit that's making the loud wailing noise!!! It hasn't gone off for half an hour or so, but now the display says "keypad tamper"!!

Is it going to cost a lot to call someone out tonight?? How much roughly will the service/battery cost?? Sorry to keep asking questions - this is all new to me.

What do I do now??? hi wilburpig on safety grounds, your best not to play within the panel as mains (ie lethal) potential is available, it can so spoil your day. this is not being high handed, but as we don't know the quality or care used by the installation engineer, with no battery fitted it just don't look too good so great caution is advised. short term if you must dabble, nip down to Maplins or Local Electrical Suppliers and buy a 7amp battery, install to the black and red push-on leads using correct pollarity (+ on battery = RED). this should stop the battery test routine from triggering the internal siren and keypad sounders. then you are strongly advised to get a trained and competant engineer to have a look at you system, service it and advise you as to your security otions, because your requirements will differ greately from the previous owner. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
Guest wilburpig Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Youve opened the keypad not the control panel even so removing the battery wont help! See, I told you I didn't know what I was doing!! lol
Guest wilburpig Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 OK, I've taken the case off the speaker and pulled off one of the wires. It is blissfully quiet! thanks for all your advice guys

Matt Ward Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 OK, I've taken the case off the speaker and pulled off one of the wires. It is blissfully quiet! thanks for all your advice guys It's the 'end station' that you want, not the keypad The keypad communicates with this 'end station' It is a large white metal box which has nothing on it and is probably hidden in a cupboard or airing cupboard somewhere, out of the way. These batterys don't last much longer than 5 years, so if it's drastically over 5 years old then it will start to go faulty. As it passes the threshold of being ok and being faulty, the panel will go into alarm. The battery passes back into the 'being ok' and the panel is happy. 5 minutes later it goes into 'being faulty' and off goes the panel again!! Removing the battery will cause the panel to be in a continuous 'battery is faulty' state and the panel not keep regenerating the alarm! You'll probably need an engineer to replace the battery and put the system back together again. Boy, the 9600 does give off some volume when in alarm! Hope that was of some help! Matt
arfur mo Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 So would that be red to red, black to black and errrrrrr blew to pieces then??????? ??? i think the scanny has a non-reverasable plug (so unlikely to be cross connected), unlike other panels where the battery wires are connected into the pcb terminal strip. so imo that remark has as much validity as the trainee insisting "the pir lid was already cracked when i removed from the carton honest!" regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
