Guest applerose Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Help required please in contecting up a wireless system to external wired bell. We have installed an infinite wireless system and all is working just fine with the internal sounder. We have now purchased the inf-wsm wireless sounder module that will allow us to contect up to a wired bell box positioned on the external wall. This bell box is from the last installation that we removed when gutting the house. Problem - the wire coming from the bell is 8 strand and we have only a terminal block on the interface with 4 terminals S T - +. The interface module states that it will support most popular sounders. We do not know what make the external bell is but it did work with the old system and looks in good condition from the ground. Any ideas on colour code and which of the 8 wires we should contect to what of the 4 terminals. When we contected the red to the + and the black to the - of the module the internal battery appeared to charge as when disconnected it made some noise. We cannot make the external bell sound although alarm appears to be registered ok. Any help PLEASE Applerose
Guest rjbsec Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 There is no standard colour code for bellboxes and it is unlikely that all 8 cores from the bellbox will be in use. You will need to open up the external box and check which cores go where and report back; I advise against randomly testing cables as you may cause permanent damage to bellbox and/or interface.
Adi Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 + is 12 volts positive - is 12 volts negative T is trigger S is strobe You shouldnt need 8 core to wire the external sounder. What connections have you got on the sounder? I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.
Guest applerose Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Thank you for your help. We have not got out the ladder yet and looked in the sounder. I guess we will have to do this but were hoping not to. As we only have 4 connections S T - + and there are 8 in the cable coming from the external alarm would any relate to tamper? Could we test the alarm using the 12v battery using the red and black from the sounder + and - then try each of the other 6 wires in turn on the - battery to see if the alarm sounds ... ? thanks for any extra help.... You could...but it might cause damage...your risk!
Adi Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Should be tampered. Just because 8 core is used does not mean all are connected. Ladder out is your best bet. I really can't be ar**** with it anymore.
Guest applerose Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Thank you for the help. Job done.... did not need the ladder. Will not disclose the colours but found them using the neg to power method. I also reconnected the interface to the main box. Very happy as external alarm is now working with strob. If I could ask another question. Is there a sound module that I could connect to inhance the internal noise... Thanks again for your help. Applerose
