i can see casinos and maybe cameras on tills etc wanting high framerate maybe even retail public areas but general cctv, i think its a waste of hd space. Hopefully dave will send me this document?!?!?!

The customer will have certain requirements and I agree, why bother recording nothing. But the police specify a certain frame rate for their own systems which is a guideline as to what all system used for security should achieve, and precautions should be made to ensure any footage is admissible in court.

My ideal would have to be;

DVR records 1 frame per second standard resolution.

On motion detection or external alarm trigger, the resolution and quality is set to maximum with 16 frames per second.

Alarm triggers and motion events are logged for easy searching of the incident.

The only reason we are used to low frame rates is because multiplexers and VCR's couldn't handle much at all, with the technology of DVR's being able to record real time and the prices of the equipment falling all the time why not make the most out of it?

I see the biggest problem being the local forces not having the software to watch it all, happened twice to us recently. Now i keep CD`s with software on me all the time so I can hand to the investigating officer.

Weird isnt it, thought they had access to all software!

No You didn't ask right.

As it happens we carry a video for such times and convert to tape for scene of crime to take away also.
