davidhodgkinson Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 Just a simple question. What is the recommended minimum height for locating an external bell box from ground level? I can get easy access to approx 2m from ground level, if I need to go hight internal access/wiring may become more difficult. Thanks www.randall-hodgkinson.co.uk
davidhodgkinson Posted November 27, 2006 Author Posted November 27, 2006 It's actually more like 2.6m it's an old victorian house and the access up to the next story looks very difficult. www.randall-hodgkinson.co.uk
arfur mo Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 2m is very low. We have fitted thousands of boxes, but never fitted one that low. Why can't you fit it higher? hi Paul, he wants to either to conceal the cable or save on using ladders (aint got/don't like), my bet panel in hall bog/cloakroom, so 'easy' to take bell run out at ceiling level - i bet again via air brick . we know it's best he gets the bell as high as possible, as if its easy for him to reach so it will be for a felon using a weely bin. but if he is not keen on heights on safety grounds best he get someone who is, now funilly enough i notced most alarm engineers are good on ladders, so shall i'll let him know in my next post? regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!

Alarm panel will be fitted on the 1st floor. Will look for an access to the 3rd story, but due to the layout of the house this may take some time- lol. www.randall-hodgkinson.co.uk
davidhodgkinson Posted November 27, 2006 Author Posted November 27, 2006 You've lost me now..... You've gone from 2m to 3rd storey. I think you should be looking somewhere betwen the two.. Ok, ok, ok... Will give up now Will look again this weekend - There must be an easy way upstairs. www.randall-hodgkinson.co.uk
Guest Rulland Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Hi All,The regs just say that bell box cables MUST be protected, ie cover in alarm type small aluminium conduit right into the sounder-if that makes it easier to get the extra height. Regards Richard. MSI Alarms, Llandudno
Guest Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 it's an old victorian house the box will look lost that low, stand on dust bin & beat it to death
darbeylad88 Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 best bet here if you cant put it any higher is to try to get a cage to put around the bell. as ugly as it would look you know it wouldnt be messed around with, other than that GET UP YA LADDERS!!
