arfur mo Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 hi all, straight off this is not another room to bash any supplier up in either cheap or upmarket so go do that elswhere please, as with moaning about service or duff kit also forbidden on pain of a nasty corrective visit from my mother-in- law, wearing a fish net virsion of Nora Batty's Tights (i just lost my appettite ) those who have searched VCR tapes for the moment when a small item is stolen over a several day period will still have eyse locked in sockets from the experience. staring at a section of screen in fast playback and seeing a flicker, hitting stop and rewinding did wonders for a headache, especially on a sequencer . LJD Leviathan people will know i am a fan of LJDs leviathan which i used until recently, i liked the search routine and PTZ operations and rate it as the easiest i've seen and extremely effective. pick a day or days from an exsplorer type calander, and it loads them up, then you can highlight the activity section your interested in to drill down. on the later versions as you put the cursor over the activity area it pops up a thumbprint for a quick look, useful when your told it happened just fter dark but don't know the ruff time. click on the bins icon and you draw a square say arround a wallet, clock or picture, let go of the mouse and it searches forward for any activity in that square producing a series of thumb prints, much easier to watch than a VCR playback and very fast. click on any thumprint to display. you can slow forward or back the clip using the mouse wheel for frame by frame control. if using for PTZ the mouse is used as 'point & click' it is just so much darned easier than clicking icons with a mouse, put pointer to object blam! your centerd, i think easier overall than the joystick to use as you eed not take your eyes away from the screen. zoom in/out on the mouse wheel makes it a breeze, only down is say ratating 180 degree's quickly, but clever presets overcome this. DM Sprite MK2 i always liked the activation pop screen utility on this unit, ideal for blocks of flat where the porters had a remote monitor in the tea room and did not require second keyboard. downer for me like manny others no built in cdr drive, meant you needed either to sell or carry an expensive scussi drive for evidence use. and a tendancy for the cooling fans to get noisy in a too short period of time. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!

Just a quick correction - the current DS2s all have CD/DVD drives built-in. This has been the case for a wee while now. The rest I will leave for the wolves -- psumner@dmicros.com Manufacturer

The rest I will leave for the wolves Hi Phil, i have wolfbain so no problems i've seen the recent ones with the drives built in, but are they not a different model number then (i'd have thought DM2+ or 3? i was obviously referring to the earlier model if not so. not having used or played with one of that type i could not comment on it, so have they made the cd download an easy operation in your oppinion? the Norbain one has a single button operation, find the clip you want and it downloads before and after automatically, the search is not so easy imo for an end user to grasp. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
james.wilson Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 im never a fan of end user burning as they often get it wrong then balme 'your' system when they do. PC linked is easier and 99% of our system have either an exisitng pc or a dedicated security pc (for cctv access intruder log etc) on the site. Butthe dm is pretty simple, you say what time you want to start at then end at and the cameras (both essential info imo) then it burns the disk or disks securitywarehouse Security Supplies from Security Warehouse Trade Members please contact us for your TSI vetted trade discount.

arfur mo Posted November 29, 2006 Author Posted November 29, 2006 no not pc based arfur, pc linked ie through local ethernet. People prefer the point and click nature to the point we only use the unit as a split screen display. Plus you can limit what different users do on the software to stop the guard f'king it upBut as you know im a dm man at heart don't get me wrong i think DM is a good kit, just seems to baffle clients too much, and imo just to pricey for what it seems to offer, but you can not discount its comms over coax ability, just wonder if it should be an add-on to keep basic price down. one thing they deffo should change is that horrible power plug at the rear, always falls out or go's intermittent on the pcb. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!

Hi Phil, after 'speak and type' software is refined a bit more i wonder if they will ever fit voice control? that would be something of an idea, mind you might need the //B.W.F// filter or you could have "lets see that old fat big mouthed git in action", hey presto 10 seconds later out pops a cd with me on it regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!

I'd be very surprised if this was coming though it's a fabulous idea. "Give us a recording of that *bleeeep* who stole car reg W123 ABC" ) -- psumner@dmicros.com Manufacturer
