Menvier 800 Panel

:realmad: Just had my monitored alarm system replaced. The panel is a Mennvier M800.

Problem:

Every time somebody calls my land line if it rings more then 2 times it cuts off at my end but the caller hears something sounding very similar to a fax machine.

If I pick the phone up before it rings a second time then I can hold a conversation, although the conversation is sometimes interrupted by the sound of my alarm dialling out and sounds like a fax machine.

Why is this? I have broadband and have a ADSL filter on every BT socket (two in total) and alarm company have also attached a ADSL filter above the alarm panel, it is simply a bt filter that you would get with any broadband connection as the alarm company needs to order the one that goes inside the panel.

Can anyone explain why the phone goes into a fax machine mode (no I don't have a fax machine) after two rings and how do I fix it.

Called the alarm company and they suggested disconnecting the filter above the panel as a temporary fix until they take a look at it on Monday.

Any help would be appreciated as they appear stuck for ideas as to why this is happening.

Disconnecting the alarm from the filter(and therefore turning it into a bell only system) seems to allow incoming calls.

Sounds like the installer has enabled the downloader option, ask them to switch the access mode to off (Engineers menu 2-5-1-3). They will still be able to upload/download but you will connect them from site through the communications option in menu 2

You appear to have two problems that you need to alert your installer of:-

1) Answering machine defeat has not been enabled (only required if they need to upload/download to the panel, otherwise as Buster says, switch it off).

2) If you can "unplug" the alarms telephone connection without the panel raising a telephone line fault alert then that needs investigating as well, (there may be a short delay from unplugging to the fault alert).

Is your alarm monitored for police response?

Is there any reason why your installer cannot attend before Monday, leaving with you an unmonitored alarm?

Thanks for the information, I have got the PTSN line fault (appeared after a short delay) showing on the keypad, presumably because I unplugged the phone line. I am also finding it difficult to part set the alarm as the keypad keeps beeping to tell me there is a line fault. Went on all through the night!! :angry2:

The alarm is monitored by a monitoring station, I think called Custodian.

I really wanted to be able to practice using the system while it was on test mode so that I could show my Mum how to use it. She is very scared of using the alarm so have to get in as much practice to build up her confidence. Was going to keep setting and unsettling the system today until she felt comfortable. Now I can't do that

I am not clear about what you say about the "answering machine defeat" I don't have a answering machine I do have the normal BT 1571 option but that only goes into bt's answering machine after about 15 rings so it can't be that, can it. This happens after 2 rings.

Also my installer tells me that it is not possible to increase the volume of the keypad, what I mean is when my mother used to press the buttons on our old system the sound (beeps) of each key press could be heard from the internal siren, i.e it was nice and loud. The alarm company tells me they can't do this on the new keypads.

Hopefully they fix it on Monday, is it simple problem to fix in your opinions.

Thanks guys, why aren't any of you based in London!

there are some of us that are.

Your installer should be there today, you shouldnt be able to 'unplug' your intruder alarm

They could reprogram the system to stop it answering the phone as RJB suggests but this could be done via the up load down load software (the modem is the thing thats answering your calls)

I hope you never need your company in a real emergency.

And i must find more customers that only expect a response after a 'few' days

what a great life

And your comapny shopuld have advised you against sharing your line, ie your intruder alarm should be on its own line

Bet the old 'un was an Abacus or Gardtec :gimme:

To be fair to the company they said they would need up to 3 days to take over the system which will be Monday.

Don't know why you are surprised about elderly people needing practice, it's not as easy for them.

Also the old one was a Gardtec, are they right to say you can't do it with the new one, (keypad sound through internal siren)

Like I said they have ordered the hard wire filter but inorder to test the signals they are using a simple adsl filter as otherwise nothing goes through.

Again any further help would be appreciated.

Your installer is the only one who can directly help you and unless you agreed with them to not have proper response for 3 days they are letting you down and should be dealing with the problem now.

Yes elderly people, (and some not so elderly!), do need some help and practice to feel confident with their alarms, a bit of practice now will avoid problems and possible removal of response later!

The Menvier 800 has a volume control adjuster inside the M Series remote keypad so your installer should be able to increase the level of sound coming from the keypad - if that is still not enough for your mum, if the installer connects an extension speaker to the keypad, (dedicated terminal points are available), then the keypad sounds will output to the speaker with volume adjustment from the keypad - be prepared to pay extra for the extra speaker if it was not agreed at the time of agreeing the work.

The Volume pot only adjusts the hard wired extension speaker (wired from keypad) volume not the keypad beeps
