To be fair to the company they said they would need up to 3 days to take over the system which will be Monday.

Don't know why you are surprised about elderly people needing practice, it's not as easy for them.

Also the old one was a Gardtec, are they right to say you can't do it with the new one, (keypad sound through internal siren)

Like I said they have ordered the hard wire filter but inorder to test the signals they are using a simple adsl filter as otherwise nothing goes through.

Again any further help would be appreciated.

when you say takeover..was the system maintained by someone else??? 3days to come out thats poor...most co's will come out within hours even for a non contract customer...and most of the time it would be free if you signed up for a contract...

Only if it's monitored for police response - keyholder-only does not require compliance!

true, but the level of service should still be the same....and its still 4hrs responce unless agreed otherwise

Should be a volume pot in the RKP too

True even if bells only the maint agreement dictates a 4 hr responce unless otherwise agreed in writing.

exactly old hand...if i was john 1237 id tell who ever the co is to forget it and give you a ring..... :bye:

You are both assuming that the installer is an inspected company, or at least claiming compliance with standards - anyone can fit a monitored alarm for keyholder response without reference to any compliance; didn't we have a post here somewhere with G4S monitoring of Response alarms!

even if they are not, they should be working too,and practising 4 hr responce...

You are leaning against an open door here ... however reality is a different thing.

how come....the most important thing in our game is the customer......they want you we go,simple as...4hr max or they dont pay if deemed to be a charge call...we have all had stupid calls in the middle of the night, the ones where you shake your head and cuss...but you dont take care of them someone else will...and in this game were all fighting for the maintainence income...

Exactly, we make a bit on the install, its the maint and emergency calls that keep the companies afloat.

I think you misunderstand me - I both recommend and provide a full response and I would always dispute the integrity of an installer that could not comply with this.

However the truth of the matter is that there are numerous "companies" out there who do not care about the service they offer.

The reality is that if a system is sold as monitored then it does not automatically follow that it will receive a police response or a 4-hour callout response - if it is sold by an inspected company then it must offer a 4-hour response but if Joe Cowboy fits a system he can install to whatever conditions he desires and continue uninterrupted unless he does/doesn't do something that brings him into conflict with the Trading Standards or other laws.

I am not defending the cowboys!

sounds like you are man........if he has got the plumber in,its time we told him get rid.....get an approved or working too co in..its co's like that give the game a bad name...

If its sold as monitored then it must have some response, or did i miss something?

cheers
