Guest technod Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 I have an old Panasonic WV-CM143 monitor at my office. This surveillance equipment is out of date. Is there anyway i could connect it to my computer so that i can view it online? Thanks for your time.
Neutech Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 or buy a webserver and use it with DDNS so no static ip required all depends on your budget and what control/functions you require
Rich Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 You can get a low cost single channel video server and connect it to the video output of the WV-CM143 The system if I am right uses line powered cameras, so you would need to replace the cameras if you used a DVR. http://www.sightwatch.com/ If you used one of those, you could connect it between the video output of the monitor and the video input of your VCR if you are using a VCR. That would enable you to view your system over the internet, but you would only see what the screen is showing at that time. As mentioned above, ideally you would have a static IP address on a broadband connection and use a router on the network to manage the incomming connection to your server. If you have a dynamic IP, one that changes every time you power down the modem then you will have problems as you will probably not know the ip address to log onto the server remotely. A good router will have a function to use a dynamic DNS service online http://www.no-ip.com so no matter how many times your IP changes you will always have a fixed address to go to.
Guest technod Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 My office is using the old VCR. And i have dynamic IP. I'm keeping the VCR as i do recording on daily basis. So, the connection to internet is for additional purposes. So all i need is the video server. Thanks.
