Guest yogi Posted February 13, 2004 Posted February 13, 2004 I have no red light on my concept 6 keypad but I do have one on my main box and all the sensors have lights which reaact when theres movement. What could be wrong ? do I need to change a fuse for the keypad or do I need a new keypad ? Help please!!!
j.paul Posted February 13, 2004 Posted February 13, 2004 Have you had a power cut or had the power in the house switched off? If so then the backup battery is faulty and the panel has locked up.. Regs jpaul There are no stupid questions, but there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots.
Guest homeowner Posted September 24, 2004 Posted September 24, 2004 I (typically) just found this after posting a reply to another thread asking for help on exactly this subject (I'll probably be chastised for not using the search properly - that is what usually happens when people do this on forums - sorry folks). My keypad is completely dead which I think follows a power cut in a thunder storm. Sensors are still working and power is "buzzing" around the control box as expected, i.e. the fuse is OK. Is it a simple case of replacing the battery and turning the power back on or is there a start-up sequence to follow. If the latter, how can I find out how to do that please. , Gary
Brian c Posted September 24, 2004 Posted September 24, 2004 It may just be a fuse that supplies power to the keypad. Definitely change your battery as Pete recommended If you don't know......ask.
Guest homeowner Posted September 24, 2004 Posted September 24, 2004 Peter, Gosh, you guys are quick! The system has been in for 10 years and the battery has been changed at least once - probably about 4 years ago. I would also estimate that that I have the power off for one reason or another a couple of times a year and have never had problems with the alarm. that said I vaguely recall slightly odd behaviour on a "power-off" shortly before the failure. Servicing has been a problem since the first installer sold out and the successor went down the pan. Thus, the system has been "service-free" for the past 2 or 3 years now - not that easy to get anyone to take on such a system, not at reasonable cost anyway! Thinking about it I think the battery was replaced shortly before the last service firm went down the pan. So, hopefully a new battery might do the trick - or am I risking throwing significant dosh down the drain only to find the control panel is kaput? Gary
Brian c Posted September 24, 2004 Posted September 24, 2004 I doubt very much if replacing your battery will get your keypad to come on again. It's either the fuse for the keypad or, as Pete suggests, the charging circuit. If it is the latter you will need a new panel. Do you have a continuity tester/test meter? If you don't know......ask.
Guest homeowner Posted September 24, 2004 Posted September 24, 2004 Brian, Yes, I do have a continuity tester and could get hold of a meter from my brother. Where is the fuse for the keypad? Is it in the control box or the keypad itself (I have not sought yet to prise the lid off that). Any further help gratefully received. Gary
Brian c Posted September 24, 2004 Posted September 24, 2004 As far as I know, there are only 2 fuses on the pcb (1 system, 1 battery) and none at the keypad Check these for continuity, if the fuses are ok then it's more than likely a new panel. If you post your location, a reputable proffesional from this forum will be able to assist further you and offer you maintenance. If you don't know......ask.
Brian c Posted September 24, 2004 Posted September 24, 2004 p.s Disconnect from the mains before opening the cover If you don't know......ask.
Guest homeowner Posted September 25, 2004 Posted September 25, 2004 Thanks for all your suggestions and help. Really much appreciated. By hook or by crook I have got the thing back on its feet. I powered it down and opened the panel to check continuity and fuses. Battery was showing power but I decided to remove fuse for visual check anyway. This triggered the bell box - so that was obviously working. I then reconnected fuse which stopped the bell box. It also caused the keypad to whistle, which I could not stop as the pad was still "dead" and dark. Back to the control box and powered up. this changed the frequency of the whistle but nothing else. I repeated the power down and disconnect of battery with same results. Powered up etc. This time the panel came back to life lighting only zones 3 to 6 but otherwise still useless. I tried the same again. This time I had the internal loud sounder as well as the bell box. powered up again and keypad sprang into action with normal lighting etc. I therefore decided to pop the lid back on the control box and triggered the tamper. Luckily the keypad now accepted the user code to still the sound but was otherwise not working correctly. Back to power down and disconnect battery followed by power up. Put lid back on control box and hey presto all is back to normal. I have tested (user tests) the whole system and all is back to normal operation. We wait to see if the system now functions properly when armed for real when we leave the house! I think I shall change the battery anyway, just to be sure that it is not too aged and soon to blow the charging circuit. So, thanks for the help and advice on what is a very helpful and useful forum. Gary
