Hi everyone,

Is there a way to disable the keypad tones on the Scantronic 9800 control panel, so that when we enter any security codes the keypad is silent.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi Peter,

We have an additional control panel upstairs in the main bedroom and part-set the alarm every night. As a result we enter the code to part-set the alarm late in the evening or disable it early in the monring. I am trying to keep the noise to a minimum as my 9 month old daughter sleeps just scross the landing and she is starting to develop bionic hearing! It would just make life a little quieter at those extreme times when the house is extremely quiet.

I have looked through the manual and there is no mention of this feature, so I suspect it is either an undocumented feature or one which has been introduced on a more recent control panel.

Thanks for your help.

Is it a 9800 or a 9800+? The latter has the 'silent night set' ability. I'm not sure if the old software does, I'll dig my manual out & let you know.

I went up into the attic...I found a Stradavarius & a Picasso. Unfortunately.....

Stradavarius couldn't paint, and Picasso made a shocking fiddle.

Hi Nikko,

Thanks for your reply. The control panel's I have inherited are the older 9800.

You mention a "silent set" ability and I think this may already be set-up. When I enter a code to set the alarm from the control panel upstairs, while the alarm is scanning and setting itself it does make any sounds. Once the set is complete it also does not make any sounds, so this part of the silent setting works well.

I want to disable the beeping from the keypad. Everytime I enter a digit the keypad beeps and this is annoying and quite loud at 5am when the rest of the house is silent.

If its not possible to silent the keypad with the 9800, does anyone know if it is possible to do this with the 9800+? At least then I know I can upgrade my way to a more peaceful house.

Thanks for your help.

Ok, found the manual!

1. Does the system have a separate internal sounder, possibly a loud speaker somewhere in the house? If this is so, you can take the lid of & cut one of the wires. This is not ideal, because your alert to an intruder whilst your're in the house will be reliant on hearing the bell outside, but in young'uns' early years may be preferable. When you take the lid off the alarm may sound. Just enter your code to silence & reset when finshed.

2. The 9800 keypad has a volume pot inside. Open it by placing a small flat blade screwdriver in slots 1 & 2 located on the bottom of the the keypad. Again the alarm will sound but follow the above procedure until you've done it. The pot is the black round component with a white centre, slotted to allow a small screwdriver to be inserted. Turn this from MAX to MIN. This matey, is as low as it goes. It's this same setup on the 9800+.

May you sleep well!

Nikko

Hi Nikko and Pete,

Thanks for your efforts here, I am extremely greatful.

I will attempt to open the control panel at the weekend during the day, as it sounds like the alarm will go off when I try this. I dont think this sleepy close will appreciate me setting the alarm off at 8:30pm in the evening :-)

If I can turn down the volume of the beeps, this should do the trick. If the volume still isn't low enough I will add some bluetack as well !

I will let you know how it goes and if I am successful.

Thanks for your help and best regards

Please follow Nikko's instructions The Keypad Does have an internal pot and it will silence the keypad bleeps. Try leaving the External speaker connected to the system and try the keypad thing as nikko suggested first..
