Guest warrclev Posted February 18, 2004 Posted February 18, 2004 I have recently moved into a house fitted with an optima xl4 system (4 zone). It has two panic buttons fitted and two PIR's. I have been trying to re-set the system to use a new code, but when I put the mains power on to it, the 'attack' and zones two and three lights are on, and the keypad is in-operative. Does anyone know what is wrong with it and how I can fix it?? Thanks
Guest Andyp Posted February 18, 2004 Posted February 18, 2004 Hi It sounds like the two PA buttons are still latched in alarm. Make sure that a green tag is showing in the window next to the keyhole on the PA button (if fitted). If the tag is red, you will need a pa key to reset the buttons. When the buttons are reset you should be abble to return the system to normal by pressing the reset key. Andy
Guest warrclev Posted February 18, 2004 Posted February 18, 2004 Andy, Firstly thanks for your advice. I did have an additional Panic button at an old exit point to the house, and was advised to connect the tamper wires together and the two power wires together which I have done, could this be creating a problem? Also the two PIR's look new, and if the last occupants wiring is anything like the rest of his DIY then they may be creating a problem possibly?? Thanks
Guest Andyp Posted February 18, 2004 Posted February 18, 2004 No problems, thats what we are here for. Thanks for you vote of confidence Pete!! B) Any DIY wiring can cause a problem if not done correctly. To be quite honest I would cut your losses and call a qualified engineer. It shouldnt cost that much to check the system out and put right any DIY slip ups. AT least you will know that the system works correctly. Have a look in your local Yellow Pages or tell us what area you are in and I am sure someone on the forum will be able to help. Andy
Guest warrclev Posted February 18, 2004 Posted February 18, 2004 Andy, Thanks again. Do you think that it would be worth upgrading my current system? I am happy with the hardware that it has at the minute, but the control panel looks old, or would I be throwing money away on something that just looks newer? Simon
Guest Andyp Posted February 18, 2004 Posted February 18, 2004 If the engineer say that the panel is ok then concentrate on getting the cabling up to standard. If the panel isnt in the middle of a wall on view then there isnt really much point in updating it if it works ok. Hope all this info helps. Andy
