TheSaint Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 Hi I am looking to install an alarm system at home and thanks to this website i think that i have come up with a suitable set of gear to put in. I am hoping that someone will be able to cast their expert eye over the following list and see if there are any problems. Texecom Veritas Excel Texecom Exodus 12v Fixed Temperature 64c Heat Detector For Burglar Alarms Aico Ei Professional 12v Ionisation Smoke Detector Texecom Prestige Quad Element Digital PIR Texecom Odyssey 1E 109db Bellbox Surface Magnetic Contact 6 Core Burglar Alarm Cable 100m Cable Clips I live in a bungalow and am going to put contacts on all the external doors (3) and put into 1 zone. I will have 4 PIR (hall, lounge, kitchen/diner, conservatory) 1 zone each. Bell box as 1 zone. Smoke/Heat sensors as another zone. I might add some security to my shed at sometime but that wont be happening just yet. Have I missed anything obvious? Rgds Saint

Rgds Saint use 8 core if you have not already bought 6. the bell box doesn't get wired into a zone, it has its own section on the board. are all the doors going to be used for exit/entry? if not you may want to put the one's that are not on to a different zone You didnt mention a battery for the panel, 7 ah 12v should be fine
Anusoflannigan Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Fit a Dual tech (microwave and pir) in the conservatory to avoid false alarms. Odyssey 1E the E stands for economy and only has a single piezo, get one without an E on the end for a better quality siren.
TheSaint Posted January 8, 2007 Author Posted January 8, 2007 Thanks for all the quick responses. First things first, battery added to the shopping list, I new I'd missed something! I thought that I read that the quad PIRs were suitable for a conservatory and that was why I selected it. However advice taken and the order will be ammended. Bell box changed from the 1e to the Texecom Odyssey 1 115db Bellbox. I would be interested in a telephone dialer, do they replace the control panel or do you need both? Purely in the interest of research(!!!) how easy is it to integrate a proximity reader into a domestic application such as this. I like the idea of a proximity reader if you are able to set and disable the alarm with a quick swipe of a key fob, but does it start to complicate things? Will I have a series of boxes mounted on the wall which will just confuse everyone that has to use the system? Thanks again Saint

Thanks again Saint I would'nt under any circumstance fit a pir quad or any other version into a conservatory dual tec everytime..As for a prox reader i think(i don't know texecom very well) you could get a keypad with prox reader fitted inside of it...one of the other guys on here will be able to answer that though You need both a control panel and a speech dialer as that all a dialer does it dials a number and delivers a pre recorded message
mjw Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Yep, keypads are available in prox reader version. Keypad looks and works exactly the same but with added prox reading capability. Thought so
breff Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Yep, keypads are available in prox reader version. Keypad looks and works exactly the same but with added prox reading capability. Only for the Premier range, not Excel. The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct! (Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)

Guest Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 I would be interested in knowing what experience the op has this kind of equipment or installations? How will he wire the Spur? Texecom is easy,,,,however I would state you do need an understanding of alarms to fit them, they are not like wiring a plug! Anyway I am dead against diy job's gives the industry a bad name.
