UltraHighResolution Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 Hi Sony Basically I think we think that the camera you have is not sensitive to the frequency of light emmited by the IR lamp so much the same as your eye can not see this illumination neither can the camera. May IR illuminators are 840nm and upwards and many cameras are sensitive to 830nm and down with the sensitivity increasing as the frequency drops. The vast majority or speed domes on the market, Pelco included, are not sensitive to even the most professional of IR illuminators eg Derwent and most of these domes have a sony chip also. My only other concern is that you have an IR protected lens though these are generally specialist and expensive I hope this helps Best regards R
sonycamera Posted January 11, 2007 Author Posted January 11, 2007 dennard? you have a dennard ir? 50watt?i was looking ideally for you to point the camera at the light output side of the ir, you should see a 'flare' ie a big bright light. If you do great, if you dont then your cam cant see the freq of light coming from that led emitter Hope that clears it up, and im not offended in anyway about be called jason mate, dont worry about it at all, i was only being funny The Dennard is a TYPE 880 and uses A 12V - 50W BULB, this glows a bright red when lit and is easily seen. This illuminates the area pretty well but not as good as I thought it might, and when anyone wlaks through the gate their faces are completey white as if overexposed . The distance to my front gate is about 5 metres.

sonycamera Posted January 11, 2007 Author Posted January 11, 2007 your lamp is too higher freq, I would stay with the dennard and adjust the lens, to suit assuming you have that type, if its a cheapy on e you wont. What lens you got? I cant remember getting any information with the lens but I will have a good look at everything on Saturday. I'm at the hospital tomorrow but in the meantime thanks for evrything up to now. I got a new bulb today for the Dennard, lets hope I bought the right one,,if not where would I get a genuine Dennard replacement,, do they supply general public or would I have to go to an alarm company.

Scott Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 Isn't 50w a bit much for using at 5m range guys, Can the IR power be turned down? Scott
sonycamera Posted January 11, 2007 Author Posted January 11, 2007 Isn't 50w a bit much for using at 5m range guys, Can the IR power be turned down?Scott Thanks Scott,, illumination of the area is not that good that I could afford to turn it down even if I could, its just a problem with faces
sonycamera Posted January 11, 2007 Author Posted January 11, 2007 you will need to adjust the level, if you have a dc lens it will be on the cam if you have a video lens it will be on the lens itself, but without knowing what lens you have and what cam, we have no chance on saying how Everyone can I just say I am staggered at the amount of time you chaps have given me so far. This is a wonderful forum and I am so grateful,, if you lived close by I would take you all for a pint or two. Is there anywhere on the cam I can look to find out what make it could be. I dont seem to remember anything on the outside of the body, It was described as a professional camera, I realise that tells us nothing, any how at the weekend I will have a really close look at the camera and at the lens and let you know what I find if thats ok.
