talltree Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Hi First post. Having a basic knowledge of electronics I have installed about 10 alarm systems over the years for family / friends. The down side of this has been they ring me up all hours of the day/night with any problem. Recently a brother in law accidently cut through a detector cable blowing the aux fuse & ever since I have lost sleep thinking what if he had cut through the bellbox cable setting off the SAB/SCB. What would I tell him to do? All replies gratefully received

All replies gratefully received If its a recent sounder and got the correct timers it will ring for between 15 and 20 mins then you tell him to be not so stupid and charge him to replace the cable. If its older and wont stop get it off the wall quick or you , rather he will get a noise abatement order and the police and local locksmiths will open the property and silence it if no one is in.

What would I tell him to do? Well, someone who was a bit harsh could say that if you have no intention of being able to support the system at all hours of the day and night then you shouldn't be installing the system in the first place. If you class after sales support and maintenance as a downside of fitting alarms then the simple answer is, don't fit them. If someone (your brother in law, your neighbour, someone who lives the other end of the country) accidentally cut through the cable to the SAB then they should call someone who is competent and able to sort the system out promptly. However, I'm not a bit harsh so I won't say that.
