Ish Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 Hi All For a 28 camera system would it be better to go for a pc based system or a dvr based system. The main criteria is:- . must be 3 fps recorded from each camera . must be easy to go and view recorded video and fo it to continue recording while doing this . must have enough hard drive capacity to allow us to store a months worth of video on there and then have the facility to back this up and warn us when we are nearing max space. we don't want any video to get overwritten . cost is an issue . playback quality must be decent enough to recognise a face from the cam pointing to the main entrance at the moment we have been offered a system where the heart will be 2 geovision gv-650 card pc's. what would you gor for? TIA
luggsey Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 I would be supprised if a PC could keep up with 28 cameras recording! Even if it could IMHO I would expect the image to be ****. I can only recomend what I know to be good which is Tecton, ain't cheap tho..... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Life is like a box of chocolates, some bugger always gets the nice ones! Ish Posted January 18, 2007 Author Posted January 18, 2007 for the 28 cameras it was actually 2 pc's with a 16 camera gv-650 card in each one. are there any better pc based systems? tbh what we have been quoted for the geovision system kind of fits our budget but i wondered if we could have a dvr system for the same price. has anyone got any links to the kind of dvr we would need for our requirements? Thanks.
Phil Sumner Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 I know this is a regular argument - but saying you want 23 cams/84 PPS overall with duplex/triplex operation and good quality images, and you're saying that cost is an issue? I could understand that statement if you were saying a small, 4 cam system at 12pps globally... that would be easy to do at low cost, but the scale of what you're after surely rules out any budget system. -- psumner@dmicros.com Manufacturer
secboy Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 QFA!! Problem for us guys to guide you is that you want the shopping basket full with all the goodies but then say that the cost is an issue---that is really no different to any project for any customer--each project has a limit on the funding, but to help you properly we need to have an idea of your limit--it may make your project unacheivable with a professional quality system or it may allow you to unexpectedly afford the creme de la creme of cctv recording--at this point we cannot tell!!!.
