sparkydom Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Hi, Has anyone had any experience with the ACT 431 inline dsl filter? I need to wire one between an external communicator and a bt master socket. Am i right in thinking that, to allow line siezure I need to wire from pin 2 & 5 on the master socket to A & B in on the filter. Then from A & B out on the filter to my communicator. A1 & B1 are optional line monitoring for the communicator, if option is available. If other telephones/modems are to be used on the line, a second master socket needs to be wired to A & B out on the filter (I understand this is not filtered, so that broadband can be used). So now the second fitted master socket is the one to be used by phones/modems etc and the first bt one is not to be used??? http://www.actmeters.com/actmeters.htm Many thanks for reading, hope it made sense Dom
Guest Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 For line sieze; 1) Pass Through. These terminals just pass through and are not normally used.2) AB Line In. Connect these terminals to the master socket incoming BT line. 3) AB Line Out. Connect these terminals to the master socket Phone/Fax line. 4) AB to Equip. Connect these terminals to the control panel/digi) AB line. 5) A1 B1 from Equip. Connect these terminals to A1 and B1 on the digi. So AB Line In to master socket 2&5. AB Line Out to second master socket for other phones on the line. AB to Equip. to digi line in. A1 B1 from Equip. to line out on the digi.
sparkydom Posted January 23, 2007 Author Posted January 23, 2007 Hi Lurch, Thanks for the fast reply Is there any limit on cable distances? If I used a 4 pair cw108 or equiv. The master socket is at one end of the house and the panel is at the other, will it be ok to make all terminations at the master socket, pass down the one cable and have the filter mounted in the alarm panel some 15metres away, and then back along same cable to the second socket (mounted next to master socket)? Thanks again. Its not something ive tackled before. Just trying to pick things up for future Dom
sparkydom Posted January 23, 2007 Author Posted January 23, 2007 Hi, Thanks again. Just to check.......it is a master socket I would need to fit as the new line socket, and it is ok to use just the one cable for send/return signals How do most installers set this up? is line seizure alsways used in this way? Dom
Guest Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Depends on the job, I can come up with all sorts of ideas for wiring phones\alarms\ADSL services etc... As you have described it it would probably be how I would have done it, and have done in the past, or a variation on the same theme. You can use a secondary socket and just link terminal 3 between them both but for ease of wiring I would just stick a master on as the new socket.
