mjw Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 I owned up to a speeding ticket before xmas i was doing 35 in a 30 (the lowest you can trigger the camera off at) i sat a speeding seminar last week so's not to get any points on my licences i have been upto 9 but am now clean its a real nightmare points on your licence the officer taking the course said he and most of colleagues disagree with safety cameras as they dont take into account the conditions and reasons for people speeding, He said he actually stopped a car doing 74.5mph in a 30 zone whilst he was a traffic cop and when he pulled the car he said it was the biggest mistake he made that day, as the blokes wife in the passenger seat was giving birth!!! so he escorted him to the hospital and let him off. Make no mistake though speeding kills. Speeding does'nt kill.....bad/incompetent driving does...i.e speed in the wrong place
hullofaplace Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Speeding does'nt kill.....bad/incompetent driving does...i.e speed in the wrong place Rubbish an incompeten/bad driver is twice as likely to kill someone at 35 than at 30 fact.
buddyboy Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 what do you class as the right place to speed then? Trade Intruder
Guest Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Rubbish an incompeten/bad driver is twice as likely to kill someone at 35 than at 30 fact. I've driven at 142 before on an A road, I didn't kill anyone, fact. So, speed doesn't kill.
hullofaplace Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 what do you class as the right place to speed then? Depends on the conditions you cant determine a "safe" speed.
Alarm Protection Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Drive at 142mph on a A road and a kid runs out on that road and the answer is death. You can say that im in the middle of nowhere and it will never happen but it does and TBH Lurch its nothing to boast about! I have seen a trafic accident that i was not involved in but stopped and the main guy was speeding and all i can say is it was the most distressing and horrible time of my life that some scenes i will never talk about. Speed does kill and i have seen it! !

Speed does kill and i have seen it! You've missed the point. Drive at 6000mph and don't hit anyone and everyone's fine. Drive at 30 and run someone over and kill them, everyone's not fine. Conclusion: running people over kills them, not speeding.

But if your driving at a speed that is suitable for the coditions and the road there is a chance that you may stop in time or not hit the person hard enough to kill them as you can probably tell the speeding seminar does hit home i'm not trying to lecture or anything but the one thing the seminar did for me was make me think about how i drive!!.
mjw Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 But if your driving at a speed that is suitable for the coditions and the road there is a chance that you may stop in time or not hit the person hard enough to kill them as you can probably tell the speeding seminar does hit home i'm not trying to lecture or anything but the one thing the seminar did for me was make me think about how i drive!!. Well thats the idea and you have just agreed with what i said earlier(in a roundabout way)...speed in the right place is safe..i,e the road conditions dictate...75 mph is safe on the motorway(in good weather etc)...75 mph on a residential street no its not,and anyone(including any emergency service) that does that speed needs to be thrown in jail forget about stamping their licence....Point is the lecture and/or points is meant to make you slow down and think about it and in your case and mine it has(i got done by a camera last month 45 in a 40),the thing is I should have known better as i took an advanced test some 4 years ago i am now also qualified to take out a driver and teach them to advanced standard(and no i am NOT a driving instructor lol),so i do know a bit about it and yes i have seen the lecture you attended And in answer to an earlier question there is'nt an excuse for speeding

If you drive, at any speed, ad don't hit anyone then no-one's killed, so therefrore speed doesn't kill. Killing people kills people, speed doesn't. I'm not saying speeding is fine, and I'm not condoning it, I'm just saying, speed doesn't kill people, killing them does.
