Guest Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 ALL vehicles with a gross payload from the 1 st january 2007 WILL BE LIMITED TO 60 MPH...thats is on the statute books and is being done Is that limited by law or limited by the engine? Dave
Chorlton Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 sorry finger slipped 2000 kg...well its law now its to stop the white van man problem(if there is one???) mjw as you say this is for vehicles with payload of 2000Kg (2 tonne) therfore a GVW of 3500Kg (3.5 tonne). Thats bigger size transits, Merc sprinters, renault Masters, Iveco dailys etc. Anything under that weight class can do 70mph on motorways and 60mph on duel carriagways/national limit zones. Any van that is car derived e.g Caddy (polo), Combo (corsa), Berlingo/partner (saxo/106) can do 70 on duel carrigways/national limit zones. Unless I'm missing someting (won't be the 1st time)

John Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 ANY van over 2T is now subject to limit of 60 mph. Some of the really small vans may be under 2T GVW Little Suzuki at a guess??? Our berlingo, caddy and trainspotter are all over 2T Also you don't get away with "think the limit is 70, officer" - I have been done for exceeding 60 MPH on a dual cabbageway. Fire Member

(apart from the cabbage reference ) But I think we are getting mixed up between payload weight and gross vehicle weight. Anything that is rated to carry 2 tonne or more is restricted to lower speeds. James car derived is nothing to do with windows it the van style i.e does the front part look like a car in the manufacturers range.

No - its based on GVW - Gross Vehicle Weight - not what it can carry. Fire Member

Is there any reference to it on the tinternet? Even my van which can only carry 1 tonne exactly has a GVW well over 3 tonne Any reference appreciated. Chris.
