The biggest change to business websites was the disabled discrimination act (DDA) which requires them to be written/made in such a way that they can be accessed by the disabled which I asume means those with vision problems i.e registered blind???

I may be completely wrong though!

Chris.

:)

You are (almost) completely wrong, but going in the right direction.

I hate giving detals out on my web-page apart from contact numbers and email address's theyre are just to many fraudsters out there waiting to pounce, all registered companies have the all there info listed at companies house any way, so why do this.

IMO its just giving these criminals an easy way in to identity theft!!

I know arfur, thanks, it's a minefiled that tinternet stuff, you only have to blink to be breaking some brussels rule or another. I've had 2 complaints about the coloured dot thing on my extinguisher page http://www.firebreak.co.uk/fb61f/index.php?id=54 not being compliant but I've also had 10 people say it is very smart.

I can only please one person a day, today is not your day so take number and wait in line was my response, as I went to the same customers services class at school as Gordon Ramsey. :bruce_h4h:

If you're a business it's hardly difficult is it?

You have to do it on your printed correspondence anyway, it's just an extension of that.

hi amateurandy,

agreed not difficult (as long as your aware it's needed). we all have private e-mail as we do business related. while customers are treated just as such, many in my case become good friends, and it's to easy to send a business related email to a client you see as a friend. so say another director, having wanted to get his own favorite contractor in, might just use it do you down.

not paranea, but when watching one's back it always a forward looking pre-occupation.

Very true, I've done it myself using the wrong email account.

Especially if you work from home, you do have to become quite disciplined regarding emails and keep work and business separate, ideally on separate PC's, if not then try to use different email systems and DEFINITELY different email addresses.

Yes do expand on that

Rich, you are unfortunately right that it's a minefield as you said earlier.

The DDA imposes obligations on providers of services (among other things) to make them readily (and equally?) available to "disabled persons" without actually defining much of what this means; it's evolving (or will) through various legal and other challenges. There are all sorts of caveats about what is reasonable and practical etc.

The primary wording on the DRC web site is:

....requires service providers to make

This is going way off the original topic however; maybe it should be moved to another thread before continuing?

hi amateurandy,

your in no way 'off topic', i think you view is very valid and it's best if it stays right here in this thread. having a reason for doing something makes that task more worthwhile and of value and less of a choa.

disablement comes in many forms, fortunatly for me i have been spared these in my family and myself. so as an able bodied person with scant contact, so little realisation of the practicle difficulties, it is tough for me to spot and make valid adjustments as much as i do care to.

perhaps 'small print' on contracts should disappear under the DDA and would be a great step forward for the visually impaired as well as able bodied, that could stretch to URL icons on web sites being more visible, not just highlighting press 'here' for help within a sentance.

i have several hotmail email accounts, one for freinds, another for more buisness related and a 3rd i use for e-commerce to help weed out trash mail. it's handy using hotmail as i store names and addresses in it, they are available from anywhere there is an internet linked computer of pda. if i lose my phone abroad i can still get at the contact info if needed online.
