Monty
If we take over a panel installed and prev looked after by an NSI/SSAIB Installer do the panel owners/house holder have any rights to the Engineer code or are the prev Installers/maintainers bound by any reg's to default code or let owner know code ?? www.AllanMoncrieffAlarms.com
antinode
As far as I am aware, the outgoing maintaining co are under no obligation to come out and change the engineer code so that the incoming company can gain access to the system. Of course most companies will attend and change the engineer code for a callout charge. The comapnies engineer's code could also be classed as sensitive info and should not really be given to the customer under any circumstances... Sounds like you have a locked panel on your hands to me Trade Member
morph
Discussing this in the public forums will only lead to an argument. If you search the forums you will also see that this very subject has been discussed a few times.

Nope, none whatsoever, the clue is in the name "engineer" code It's considered good practice to default and fully reprogram the panel as if you just change the eng code how do you know the rest of the programming is correct? If it isn't and the alarm doesn't activate after an intrusion you leave yourself wide open to liability. Also you will find that the programming of the panel is the intelectual property of the installing co. Just the same way as you don't have the rights to the encryption keys that protect things like ipod music tracks or the css system that protects DVD's. Regards Bellman Service Engineer and all round nice bloke ) The views above are mine and NOT those of my employer.
Eamonn
Never known it happen in over 20 yrs. Bet if an engineer was told to go to a site and default eng code for new co, they would default to only something they know!!!!!!!! Engineer Codes, this might help, British Standard PD6662 dictates that only engineers can access engineering Permitting a user to access engineering breaks regulations Someone told me I was ignorant and apathetic, I don't know what that means, nor do I care.
