Guest Malcolm Posted March 4, 2004 Posted March 4, 2004 Please help. installed Sterling 10 with 2 RKP's. programmed system and tested OK. set system for first time and after entry/exit time alarm went off. RKP showed "personal attack". cleared alarm and checked log. It showed "Unset User1". tried everything to get it to work without success. so drastic measures, pulled fuse and battery to reset to default. now it goes into alarm as soon as I try to set. this thing is getting me down. any ideas as to where I am going wrong?
Service Engineer Posted March 4, 2004 Posted March 4, 2004 Could be several things, Sounds as though you have either incorrectly programmed a Zone to be PA. or perhaps enabled 2 keypad numbers as a PA, that might correspond with numbers of your User Code. or perhaps you have the DURESS facillity enabled, and have codes very close to each other. eg:1234 & 2234 & 3234 etc. ........................................................ Guest Malcolm Posted March 4, 2004 Posted March 4, 2004 dont think I have, but will check. User code no where near 1234
Service Engineer Posted March 4, 2004 Posted March 4, 2004 No mate those codes are just examples 4555, 5555, 6555 & 5621, 6621, 6721 etc etc Any code which only differs by 1 number + or - ........................................................ Dave Partridge (Romec Service Engineer)
Guest Malcolm Posted March 4, 2004 Posted March 4, 2004 no nothing like that, 5716 was actually what I was trying, dont understand how I got PA as a code. nothing in book as to PA numbers, althought there is a PA button on the RKP's (LCD). also, whats "Duress"
Service Engineer Posted March 4, 2004 Posted March 4, 2004 Im not at all familliar with the Sterling 10, I was just thinking of things that could possibly be wrong calling on features available on other panels. *A Duress code is any code + or - 1 from the actual code, so if for example my code was 8971 and i input 9971, 8972, 7971 or 8970 then the system would unset as normal but silently signal a PA feature. * Normally only enabled on Monitored Alarm Systems. ........................................................ Guest dale Posted March 5, 2004 Posted March 5, 2004 It actually sounds more like a tamper alarm on the keypad tamper circuit. Make sure you put the link in between tamper return and negative (I think - im just going off the top of my head so check the manual). The symptoms you describe are definately similar to a tamper fault on the keypad, also make sure you have put the tamper post in the control panel box under the tamper switch otherwise it will not depress properly. Guest simmo Posted March 5, 2004 Posted March 5, 2004 Yep your memory is spot on Dale the link is between KTR and K-. From memory (haven't got the manual to hand) don't you have to 'learn' the second remote keypad - has this been done? Can't remember the exact command but it's covered in the installation manual. Have you looped out the PA zone on the panel if a panic alarm facility is not reqd? Simmo B)
Guest oldtimer Posted March 6, 2004 Posted March 6, 2004 Best thing to do is go back to basics 1. connect 1 rkp link out the panel tamper , bell tamper & pa terminals. 2. Once this is stable and you have programmed the panel the remove the links starting with pa then bell tamper and last the panel tamper (this will allow you to work on the system without tripping the tamper after each link removal) 3. Once you have done all of this then you will be ready to connect & learn the 2nd rkp. 4. These are common problems when installing an alarm system, people tend to dive in and then move onto the next step without ensuring that their last move has been proved to work
