wrighty247
Hi to all members! I am looking to buy an alarm system. I am thinking either a menvier or scantronic are top of my list. I might also consider a Galaxy unit. I am wanting the system to cover my house, internal & perimeter. I also want it to cover my shed & garage as a single ward with perimeter & internal. I could probably get away with using only 8 zones but would at least like it to be expandable. I would appreciate any advice offered or if anyone has any suitable systems for sale! offroader
galaxy are really a professional panel anyway they are complicated to programm without some training. How about a scanny 9752 hybrid panel, then you can use wirelss in the shed, hard wire through the house......
wrighty247
Hi , welcome to the site.personally i would use a scanny or veritas as a domestic, good stuff Galaxy are quite diffucult to get right and be careful if buying on ebay I am leaning towards the scantronic panels after reading your replies & doing further research, either a 9800 or 8136. I will probaly try to get one off ebay. I would prefer a hardwired unit so I dont have to rely on batteries! From what I have seen the veritas panels look a bit basic. I want the panel to be expandable so I don't have to upgrade after a year or two & easy to part set. I like the A,B,C,D set of the scantronic units with the possibility to upgrade to proxy tags. I want the best panel I can get as it is guarding my posessions! Any further comments or advice would be appreciated!

wrighty247
though both of those were obselet and been superseded? but i might be wrong Yeah but they still look like good panels. I am looking to do a DIY install. There are lots of these panels going cheap on ebay. what are the main differences between theese & the new generation. I am willing to pay more for a better panel. From what I have seen the newer panels just seem like a face lift to the older panels but I could quite easily be mistaken! If any of you know better then please let me know! Service Engineer
I am willing to pay more for a better panel. If any of you know better then please let me know! Do a search for a Gardtec 595. A bit more advanced but still fairly Easy to setup, and VERY user friendly. ........................................................ If any of you know better then please let me know! i was fitting these over ten years ago and if i get a faulty one i would want to change it even if it was at no cost to the customer if you want to fit it yourself - which i never advise irespective of works background - get on with it before its too late go to the local small electrical shop and buy a kit of them chances are it will be what they fit themselves and you can always get help and advise afterwards otherwise ring two or three local firms to qoute the work and let someone else have the hassle of doing the site survey, risk assesment, purchasing, installing, getting mains to the unit, programming and testing they have to have insurance for a reason its so easy to get the design wrong if you arnt fully up to date with the current regs ( could you name them?) ive been installing cables for overr twenty years but i still payed someone to do my home cinema for me! maybe you could agree with them that you do the cabling then they take over - seems like a good compramise the new generation of panels are far better also a lot of the equipment you may see for sale to the public was originally trade orientated so you may have problems getting any manif back up angus
