Guest andy8771 Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 Please Please someone help! Hi , I have a AJ600 Alarm,it now has for some reason a control panel lite up like a Xmas Tree! All zones 24hrs etc lite up as I entered the code : ( Obviously the problem I have is no one will take/Answer any queries. Before I start pulling it to bits, which with me is not always the best idea! I wondered if any here could guide me in the right direction?? I at first thought the battery might need replacing ...can any helpful person advise?? Thanks in anticipation Andy
Guest dale Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 A1 alarms are no longer in business, you may want to contact ADE (they purchased the company). There website address is www.ade.co.uk. You could try re-booting the panel. This involves removing mains power, then the system should run from battery... but I suspect yours will be dead if its never been replaced, if not then remove the front cover and take out the battery terminals. Then when the system has powered down and the externa siren has started going off (assuming the battery in that hasnt died) re-apply power and see what happens. In theory the system should retain its memory and go into a tamper alarm (if the cover is still open), so entering your code should silence it. D
Guest dale Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 The best thing you could do is give a local engineer a call, as there could be something else wrong with the panel. But I suspect the charging circuit has probably fried, also your battery will be dead, and the external sounder battery may also have died. Althouh it could just be that a small spike may have simply crashed the system Post your location and we will see if we can recommend an engineer in your area. D

Guest lev Posted March 30, 2004 Posted March 30, 2004 Actually ADE didnt buy A1, they went bust, they only bought the selling rights.
Guest andy8771 Posted March 31, 2004 Posted March 31, 2004 I have contacted a local firm (New Forest area) and was told to throw it away..I did think that maybe he would have wanted to see it in the first place but maybe he had powers I do not have : ) I have tried the company that took A1 over but that phone call could be compared to pulling teeth! My Niece (3yr old) was more helpful. I have resigned myself to replacing the entire system with an updated one..can anyone tell me whether I could use the existing Pir's and wiring? It has four zones and I can remember when fitting the last one the job was hellish due to strawboard walls...wasn't there a song "things can only get better"???
Guest dale Posted March 31, 2004 Posted March 31, 2004 I think you have chosen wisely. You should be able to use your existing wiring easily, if you have used only four core cable then you will have to use a control panel that supports end of line, otherwise you won't have any tamper circuits. Hopefully though you will have used 6 core cable that all terminate back to the control panel, in this case just fit a new control panel, I would recommend with onboard keypad (as I assume thats what you had before), so the ADE optima, or Texecom 8C. Guest andy8771 Posted May 14, 2004 Posted May 14, 2004 Sucess at last..whilst shopping to buy a new system an old timer said " Before you waste your money lad check the battery in the panel" So taking this stirling advice I did and lo and behold the battery was like the Parrot from that famous sketch..it had shuffled off it's mortal coil, it was an ex battery ! So the advice from my local security installer was somewhat...should I say Naff, would have said something else if I had been fleeced for a couple of hundred beer tokens. So if anyone has the same problem as I, get the screwdriver and battery tester out before you rely on ..and I use this term tongue in cheek..expert advice from your local security installer!! ( I know all are not the same I must have picked a..shall we say "wrong 'un! ) Having said all that, thanks for the people who gave constructive possible remedies. Also I would like to add this site is a great place to get expert opinion/advice on matters that not everyone has knowledge of, so keep it going. So thanks again Andy
