Tony Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Hi Have just been Burgled *******s, Police asked if Alarm was on said yes, could see all the rooms the ******s had been in, reset the via the keypad then tested the alarm, each sector registered on the key pad but the siren did not sound. The siren is extremely awkward to get at and will need to hire a cherry picker to get at it - does anyone know whats in the siren box before I go to this trouble or might there be another solution.

The siren may also contain a strobe so beaware of the high voltage that may exist in the bell box. come back if more info is needed and im sure other members will have their say on here
djrock Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Hello, Sorry to here that. I would recommend getting an alarm engineer in to check the system over. Since they will be able to find and fix faults with no problems. Also you will have the piece of mind the system works. Here
Tony Posted April 13, 2007 Author Posted April 13, 2007 Thanks - I'll get a new siren and fit it in a slightly more accessible place.
arfur mo Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 i to am sorry to hear of your greif, on thought springs to mind, did you fully arm your system when testing? as many panels will not fully alarm (ie ext siren sounds) until it has been properly set (part of ols BS.4737 regs) to prevent you waking the neighbours when you messed up leaving. if the sirens in an awkward spot, i suggest to get it moved at the same time when getting to it for future ease (and so cheaper costs) of servicing. my suspicion is if it is faulty, the battery was never connected by the engineer 'to be on the safe side', as a cherry picker hire can be just a tad tricky @ 3am on a Sunday regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
Tony Posted April 13, 2007 Author Posted April 13, 2007 I did fully test the system and the panel does have a bell test facility, for an old system it does everything I would want it to do so replacing the siren seems the best solution, I was hoping someone might have said there was a siren battery that needs replacing but looking at the panel (4 wire feed to siren) it looks as if that won't be the case.
djrock Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Hello, The siren might or might not have a battery there/connected. You can't tell this from the panel end by just looking at how many wires connect to the panel from the bell. There is a way of testing the siren's battery at the panel end but I am not sure I can disclose this info in the public Forums. Have you done a bell test? Does the siren work? djrock
Guest Sparky169 Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Yes I did the bell test but no sound at all sounds like the siren may deffinitely be faulty then id get it changed and moved to a more accessible and safer place.
