Control Panel with output to PC

Hi there

I feel rather out of my depth here, but will try never-the-less.

I am moving into an farm property that currently has no alarm system, only a CCTV setup. I am wanting to get a monitored security system installed by the professionals, but thought I would do my research on the control panels first.

I am a computer programmer, and ideally would like to be able to interface to the control panel (maybe via serial or ethernet) to access various elements ie, the logging (event log) for the system.

Does anyone know of a system control panel that would give the output to a PC maybe as an optional extra?

Many thanks

The Galaxy range of Equipment can, via an RS232 lead.

And so can a few other panels, their are also many that can be dialed into using a modem, its the software prices that sting the most though.

The problem you will have though is actually finding an alarm company that will set this facillity up for you.

Before paying for a monitored system check what the Police response times are for your area. If your location is pretty rural most force response times are approx 20mins, and thats on a good day. It might pay to save the money on the monitoring and bump up the standard of your system perhaps it could dial nearby neighbours who could respond quicker to your sytem. There are other devices around which make things uncomfortable for the burglar.

Monitored systems have their place but are vunerable in different areas.

If you need any more info post on the forum.

cheers

Cooper Security make Menvier and Scantronic brands both which will link to your pc vis a modem. The software is supplied to registered installers, not to end users, however, if you give me an indication of where you are I can recommend an installer in your area who will be able to help.

With regard to remote monitoring, you may want to consider using a Speechdialler such as the SD1+ which will contact yourself and your keyholders direct. SD2 will be available from June which will also send text messages as well as voice messages. This is an option or an addition to having the system monitored via an alarm recieving centre.

Texecom premier range will do the job. It has very good PC connection via a usb or rs232. Softwear is free from Texecom on request, but a company will have to obtain this for you.

Texecom also do a speach dialer with text message, and is slightly cheeper than SD1+

the galaxy will do all you require,if you want to access the logs etc via a local pc it will be no problem,//.National Installer.// will supply this no problem either via your local pc or remotely via the engineer help desk...as for police responce being a domestic you will not require bell delay and the galaxy can also text your mobile which zone has activated, but hopefully the police will be there first.+ being remote i would install a master blaster to make it very uncomfortable for any would be intruder.

How can the Galaxy range text your mobile? Do you mean using an add-on SMS product?

the comms module on a galaxy can send a text to your mobile in the event of an activation i think the comms module has to be above version 5 i will check this, it is set up for this in the programming.

Any comments / opinions posted are my opinion only and do not represent those of my employer or Company

I'm interested, and confused, as I just don't understand how it can send an SMS message

At the moment, I use the rs-232 module and monitor that on my server, and send out an SMS using an emailtoSMS service if needed, it would be handy to get the telecoms module to send the SMS direct.

cheers, Des.
