G0AOZ Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 I recommended a client fit Voltek's cameras and PCI card (DVC3004) to monitor and record activity in his shop. One of the main requirements was that cameras in the shop should be accessible via his Internet connection from home. After umpteen (expensive) phone calls to the company I am no further forward. I am beginning to regret suggesting this kit... Remote connection to the shop PC is fine, but no way can the camers be viewed. The SuperDVR software throws up an error when loading on the shop PC which I'm sure is the cause of the problem. Eventually got a software update from supplier, but it's no better. In the shop, cameras can viewed ok, and recordings made, but he needs remote viewing capability. The error when loading the SuperDVR software is "Failed to start the web server. GetLastError:0". The PC is fine, clean of viruses etc., plenty hard disk space, XP Pro SP2 plus very latest patches. Access to PC via Remote Desktop and Remote Desktop WEB Connection is fine, but cannot view camera video. Anyone else got experience of this software? G0AOZ.

Has it got a browser that is listed as compatible with the Voltek software? Sounds like it can't find the browser??? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Life is like a box of chocolates, some bugger always gets the nice ones! golfball Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Just a possibility have you told any anti-virus software to let the programme have accsess to the web Life is like a box of choclates.....if you dont get there first your left with all the naff ones
G0AOZ Posted April 22, 2007 Author Posted April 22, 2007 Browser on the host machine (shop) is IE7, and client has been tried using IE6 and IE7 with same results. Voltek made no adverse comments when told this info. XP's firewall has been given the relevant port exceptions as per Voltek's instructions, and I even knocked it right off in an attempt to ensure that wasn't the problem. Using Grisoft AVG antivirus which has no firewall built into it. Again, temporarily knocked it off just to check. I feel that the error message I'm getting when the SuperDVR software is loaded up, is possibly the cause of the problem. Understanding how to troubleshoot that would be very helpful... G0AOZ.
golfball Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 can i assume you have put the dvr software on to both machines and that the ip adress is fixed Life is like a box of choclates.....if you dont get there first your left with all the naff ones
djrock Posted April 22, 2007 Posted April 22, 2007 Hello, I would check the port the SuperDVR software is using is free. E.g. port 80 If you know the port number I will assume its port 80 since you say it a web server. Go to start then run, type in the run box
G0AOZ Posted April 24, 2007 Author Posted April 24, 2007 No, as per installation instructions, the SuperDVR software is only loaded on the host machine. Supposedly, the first time one makes a remote connection to the host, a small piece of software is downloaded one time only onto the client. This has not happened yet, which I'm assuming is because the Web Server part of the SuperDVR programme won't run. WAN IP for the host is dynamic, and successfully using DYNDNS to access. Host's LAN IP is static. I initially tried port 80 which is the programme default. Voltek suggested using port 5000 instead, which I did. Made sure this port, along with others required by the SuperDVR programme, were "allowed" through the router, and also in XP's firewall. Also changed it in the IIS Web services setting under Computer Management. Didn't make any difference... I have also carefully checked XP's Event Viewer, but there are no errors or warnings associated with the SuperDVR's PCI card or software application. G0AOZ.

Have you tried plugging the remote machine into the clients router to confirm if the fault is local? If no router then a crossover network cable. For example I can use a web browser on my network to look at the network printer as long as I know the IP address of it. In control panel look at the network connection and make sure the IP numbers are all ok. Some IP's also block ports without telling you, check on that. Also got told that some firewalls stay "up" even if you turn them off in software, strange though if you get remote PC working etc. Tell the supplier to get it sorted or have the kit back as you seem to have tried everything they suggested, gotta draw the line somewhere? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Life is like a box of chocolates, some bugger always gets the nice ones! G0AOZ Posted May 3, 2007 Author Posted May 3, 2007 Finally got it working! I used a completely different port from the suggested ones for the camera's WSERVER.EXE service to use, error message went away, and cameras viewable over the Internet. Thanks everybody for your thoughts and encouragement. G0AOZ.
