Hi lod7269,

we can't give info on how to disable/bypass the contact or any other device, as that would be useful to any browsing criminal. suffice to say alarms are designed to be very difficult to circumvent.

so your client needs an alarm engineer, so it's best to ask her to contact her installer. there is also another issue, should he/she suffer an intrusion and the alarm fail to work, the alarm company may claim 'others' have tampered with it and deny any liability for the malfunction, also the insurers may refuse to cough up, all of which can end up in your lap.

that will need an engineer - usually you guys have already told the customer to have us on standby - might even be on eng reset so expect a charge too

loose wire, broken contact, get a pro round to test and inspect then maybe fit a new door contact, for the cost it pays to get it done this way, then pass the bill to the door fitter. seriously.

Engineer reset for tamper.

if this is the problem, you will require the services of and alarm engineer, you have no choice. and in the worst case. you may now need a new panel. what i hear you cry all he did was move the switch. yes.

now some, what i consider good advice. for all you window fitters, horses for courses. if you want to tamper with alarms. get an alarm company on your books, pay them to come in and do the necessary. in the long run it may save you a lot of money and you will get discount for bulk business. only the other hand diy, come up against a pro panel (gardtec 840) and have some serious problems. what its only a tamper warning. yes but now you are responsible and need to be seen to get it fixed . your reputation is on the line.

ps i have a little window company on my books, they tell their customer from the off, that they wil not touch the alarms themselves, but get a pro in and incorporate it in the price. customer happy because i turn up to do the alarm prior and after fitting. whats a extra ton on the price when you spending 3000

still don`t understand why a tamper problem though. one pair of wires to contact. these were un done and then the wire shortened and a new contact fitted. there was no separate tamper circuit and the wires back to the alarm have been checked and they are ok as is the new contact. Will have to get engineer in but would like to know problem for own piece of mind. And yes a stand by alarm guy sounds fine but if you are changing 1 window with 50 profit in it wheres the money comming from. God knows how many windows and doors we have done over the last 20 years and the problems caused can be counted on one hand and most of these were down to the alarms not being right in the first place. One customer who made a right fuss wasn`t even using the right key to reset it!!!!

have a look for the little resistors in the old contact they enable two wire connection for tamper and curcuit - even if it worked the chances are youve invalidated any service agreement and if youve done this before i would seriously consider getting them serviced to ensure compliance

I have watched this topic with interest and would suggest that regardless of the profit margin, the first bit of advice would be to tell the customer its there responsibility to have the contact disconnected and reinstated after the windows have been fitted. If they dont get it disconected then get them to sign a form at the start authorising you disconect the contact and that they will arrange for it to be reinstated.

the second bit of advice would be to get a card printed that gives instructions to the alarm engineer of where and how he can fit a contact to the frame without invalidating your window warranty.

This way both companies stick at what they are professional at, ie your window fitters not alarm engineers, like wise alarm engineers are not window installers. if there's a
