Harj Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Hi. First ever post!! I am currently in the process of wiring up my new house. I've always wire up 3 bed semi's in the past with Scantronic & Veritas R8's however this house is much larger; Ground Floor --------------- hall, reception1, reception2, reception3, dining room, kitchen First Floor ----------- bedroom1, bedroom2, bedroom3, bedroom4 + ensuite, bathroom, landing Second Floor (Loft Conversion) --------------- bedroom5 (conventional window & roof window) , reception4 (roof window), bathroom (roof window) I am in an poisition where I can wire every room with pir protection, unfortunatley the windows & doors will not be changed and am unable to provide contact protection for these. 1) Is it overkill to provide protection to the bathrooms and the loft areas? 2) How many zones would you suggest? 3) Can I make the external lighting flash by means of a control should the alarm panel be activated? 4) Which manufacturers provide flush mounted keypads similar to the Veritas Premiere? 5) A personal question but JUST based on the above which panel would you opt for? Any help will be appreciated. Kind Regards Harj

Don't bother with the doors except for the main entrance doors 1) Is it overkill to provide protection to the bathrooms and the loft areas? Yes 2) How many zones would you suggest? One zone per sensor, get a panel with spare capacity 3) Can I make the external lighting flash by means of a control should the alarm panel be activated? You probably could but what's the point? You can get a mains relay to bring on 240v lighting, beware though this will come under part p (spit) and you must be qualified to install 4) Which manufacturers provide flush mounted keypads similar to the Veritas Premiere? Why on earth do you want to change from a Premier? No other manufacturer offers the smart keypads especially the chrome one 5) A personal question but JUST based on the above which panel would you opt for? I would definately opt for a Texecom Premier with flush keypad on both floors. Use 8 zone expanders to make the wiring easier Any help will be appreciated. Kind Regards Harj Harj Please see above. Good Luck Dave

arfur mo Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 h i Harj, a warm welcome to the forums, the ultimate final design of any system is not just affected based on room numbers, many factors are considered by a decent security sales person (apart from the commission that is ). we would be very unwise to recommend detector type and coverage out of hand without seeing your premises, and the way your house operates. you may have for instance a shotgun license or a valuable collection of artifacts to protect, do you or will you be likely have pets eventually, children and so on. we also asses is your security simply peace of mind, or are you very sensitive or vulnerable to personal attack, perhaps due to your job as MD of a bonded warehouse concern we don't know the risks to personally or your family. for the above reasons we cannot design your system for you, just assist you to peer through the jargon mists to clear up confusion and i'd say if your home is this substantial then it's best and most prudent to seek professional advice. security surveys are free from most companies and good accurate advice can be gleaned 1st hand relating to your personal requirements, especially if you get 3 individual estimates. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
