hi,hope someone can help.am having probs with my father in laws alarm. It triggers randomly but is always zone 4.it was apparently professionally installed around 10 years ago.i fitted a dual passive in the garage for him around 2 years ago and the problem went away.now it has returned.have tried adjusting the dual etc but the problem remains.panel is an optima compact g3.zone 4 has 1 passive in the dining room and the dual in the garage.reading through the manual tonight i noticed that the battery was replaced in 2002,could this be the prob? any ideas that any one has would be greatly appreciated as im stumped

I Would recommend you get a engineer in to take a look at the system as it could be a wiring problem on that zone

thanks for your replies.Secureability,im pretty sure that the problem is not with the dual,as the guys above suggest,it may be a wiring prob but ive checked the cables for shorts and they r fine.i think that the next move im gonna do is disconnect the dining room passive.......see what happens.ill keep posting the latest news :)

hi a4lloxo,

short answer is replace the battery,

on power outs, when power is restored the battery draws high current to recharge pulling down the rail voltage on the controls and causing an alarm on the most sensative (to voltage drop/surge) detector. as the panel indicates the 1st to alarm only you don't make the mental 'link' to the battery. there are many other scenario's but all lead to the battery or charging circuit faults.

there is no set period a battery usfully lasts for, it can be anything from say 2 to 15+ years, but usually not more than 6, so given its age it's the 1st option.

i would add intermittent faults are always the trickier ones to find especially for the novice, so a competant engineer should be engaged. your panel may be fine, but as everything alarms move on and new features make updating attractive. the external siren battery may also be defunct buy this time, so you would be very wise to have your system looked at properly to see ot is performing to designed peramiters and recent noise pollution legislation (bell run time).
