New Install - Power Requirements

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Firstly what a great site. I'm about to install a Texecom Prem 48 in a new property and wanted to check the power requirements before installing eveything and finding that I should have another PSU to help provide the power, I know the Prem48 has a 1.5amp PSU but I would rather do the job right and have room for expansion than cause a blown fuse and tamper alarm at 2.35am!

Although I'm a DIY'er I am ex store operations for a large well known high street retailer and have been using/programming there Alarm systems since the Munford & White days of CPA6's and Modern panels (anyone guessed who I used to work for ? )

I'm about to install a Prem 48 with the following, however something tells me I should install a separate larger PSU (2amp) to run the detection devices off:

1x Prem 48, 3x expanders, 2x RKP's & 3x Speakers

1x Odyssey Sounder

4x Prestige AMDT dual-tecs

6x Impaq+ Shock Sensors

4x Impaq Break Glass

2x Exodus Fire

Any "help/advice/rule of thumb" would be great. Thanks All

Following is a calculation by EN Calculator, Texecom's software for calculating power requirements: You will be best off fitting an additional PSU with an additional 7.2ah battery, use it to power part of the network, negatives must be commoned but DO NOT common positives.

Power Supply Report for: bellboi

PD6662 System Grade: 1

Control Panel: Premier 48

Battery Size: 7.2 Ah

AC Fail Sigalled to ARC: No

Required Standby Time: 12 Hours

Total PSU Output: 2.00 Amps

Battery Charging Current: 0.75 Amps

Peak Available Current: 1.25 Amps

Continuous Rated Output: 0.60 Amps

Summary of System Devices

Qty Description Grade Quiescent Alarm

--------------------------------------------------------------

02 Premier LCD 3 0.050 Amps 0.090 Amps

03 Premier 8XP 3 0.195 Amps 0.195 Amps

03 16 Ohm Speaker 3 0.000 Amps 0.300 Amps

01 Odyssey 1-5 (Normal) 3 0.018 Amps 0.545 Amps

04 Prestige AMDT Plus PIR 3 0.080 Amps 0.080 Amps

06 Impaq Plus 3 0.132 Amps 0.132 Amps

04 Impaq Glass Break 3 0.092 Amps 0.092 Amps

02 Exodus OH 3 0.016 Amps 0.016 Amps

01 Premier 48 1 0.070 Amps 0.070 Amps

--------------------------------------------------------------

Total Current: 0.653 Amps 1.520 Amps

--------------------------------------------------------------

System Summary

Requirement Actual Notes

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

12 Hours Standby 9.86 Hours Standby time does not meet the requirement.

Max Alarm Current: 1.25 Amps 1.520 Amps Alarm current exceeds maximum available from control panel!

The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct!

(Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)
