there is another option i offer my clients,

a can of industrial stregnth blue-tac, a blob on each paw and stick cat on ceiling, allows you to close patio door no problems.

not that i dislike cats, but they have caused me so many call-outs over the years, i'm sure experienced service engineers will share my views towards them.

Hi John,

ok, 1st you need to check and adjust the range on the MicroWave element properly, so carefully look at the instructions again and carefully set it so it will not reach within 2 feet of the door with a gap if you can do so but still maintain good coverage of the room.

there is a setting inside which will allow for more movement (pulse count) you could increase this but it will slow down the detector so it's a comprommise.

remmember also, micro wave can penetrate building structure's, so if you have say a rain pipe out side and watar is running down it in a storm, then you are relying on the PIR to prevent a false alarm.

another thought is, have you tried swapping over the two duel-tec's, it's just possible the livingroom one is more sensative than it should be or slightly faulty. you also need to ensure the widows are always fully closed and not left on night latches even the small windows, especially during wind or temperature extremes to prevent draughts and thermals causing an issue.

Thanks Alan, that seems straightforward. I have another question. I've just been looking through my box of bits  and I have found a new Texecom Mirage Dual Tech Pir.

It isn't however a Pet immune one though. What I was wondering...can I swap the lenses over? ie. put the pet lens from the Texecom 3d Petwise Pir on the Mirage Dual Tech? Would this make it pet immune?

The lenses are the same size but with different patterning. Just a thought :)

Thanks

Hi John,

i don't actually know the models mentioned involved, even if i did i would be real cautious to recommend you do this.

millions of pounds are spent on design of the lens patterns, and they are designed in relation to the pyrosensors characteristics, and their orientation within the cases.

it might work, but i would not bet my own house on it, and just get another sensor of the right type.

Thanks Alan. Both Pirs are by same manufacturer, I might just give it a try and check it works with a walk test then stick that zone on soak test for a week with the cat having full access at all times. if that passes I just need to watch what happens as the weather hots up and the heat from the conservatory passes into the room.

Thanks for all your input guys and I'll let you know how it goes as I'm sure you'll want to have a laugh if it doesn't go as planned  B)
