Guest wizbongre Posted April 15, 2004 Posted April 15, 2004 As mentioned in a post in the general forum, I'm considering purchasing a Texecom alarm system and performing the installation myself... Obviously one thing that concerns me is the lack of installation manuals available to the general public (obviously for a good reason!) I can only get these from the Texecom website if I'm a registered trade installer - obviously I'm not (I tinker with computers for a living ;-) Is there another source of the manuals? Or should I just give up?! I don't envisage having any problems installing the system as my DIY/electrical skills are more than adequate to take my time over one alarm installation... I expect most of you will recommend me speaking to a professional but I'm determined to do this myself! Unless of course someone knows of a friendly alarm installation company in the Merseyside area who supply/fit Texecom products?
breff Posted April 15, 2004 Posted April 15, 2004 I would not advise installing a Texecom Premier for a 1st timer. They are excellent panels but are quite difficult to program. I've been installing them for a couple of years now and always use my laptop for programming! If you want to do the hard work yourself and save some money, why dont you cable the house yourself (run 8 core to everything) and get a quote for an installer to 2nd fix to your prerun cables? The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct! (Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)
Guest wizbongre Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 I guessed it would be a bit complex - I was looking at picking up the Winex software as well. I'm a computer programmer by trade so felt I 'should' be able to figure it out - would be a bit embarrissing if I couldn't Either way, your suggestion of fitting the stuff myself isn't bad - I had considered something like that when I originally looked into buying the Comfort home system. I would install all of the hardware and cabling and then just pay someone to program/test/setup the system. Do many installation companies offer this service? I would have thought they would be funny about it not being their own installation and so I'd have problems with contracts and maintenance etc..
breff Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 I would imagine most companies would be ok with fitting their equipment to your cables. When we do this your service contract is unaffected unless there becomes a cable fault. Before you ask I'm nowhere near you! The opinions I express are mine and are usually correct! (Except when I'm wrong)(which I'm not)
