Map Security Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Guys, on friday I met with Headmaster of a primary school to discuss vandalisum/ hooligan problem...... The school is isolated from all angles of view and this is attracting kids out of hours drinking, smashing bottles and causing general vandalisum...The police are too stretched to respond quicly..Hence the school is looking for the caretaker to remotely view.. The building...Single level of sloping roof offering no "high point" to mount cameras...So fixed to building offers 8Ft highest monitor point..The school has about 10 roofed open areas and this is where the kids congregate at night....The School does not want pillars mounted around the perimter . Also there is very low lighting hence IR is an absolutely must to cover specific areas of about 10metres max....What camera would you recommend that could withstand limited abuse - I will need 10 of these... To cover main playground which is a low light area (of about 50m x 30m) I'm looking at traditional night/ day housed camera BUT again the mounting point will be low...any recommendations? The school requirement is to move kids on at night and not any other threat at the moment.... How would you respond to the school and what type of solution/ cams would you offer?? Lastly I was told the budget is very limited and the board will consider CCTV so "be sensible" Would really appreciate any help on this one...can supply more info if needed... Max

Max Not an easy one at all this. If, as you describe, cameras are to be about 8ft high. I suspect they won't last 2 minutes, whatever you fit. Changing tack slightly, have you considered the Mosquito units to try and dissuade the kids from loitering?? Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional
Alpat Systems Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 http://www.fvcctv.co.uk/products/documents...V-DS_070309.pdf probably out of budget though. We've installed loads of vandal proof domes with cages and had little problem also used these before to house cams, again with a cage. http://dynamic-cctv.com/PDF%20files/AVH.pdf Haydon Metro housings are built like tanks!. You could also add voice deterrent http://www.optexeurope.com/Site/temPW3_001...&intLevel=6 http://www.talking-alarms.co.uk/va1_240m.html Would the school allow wall mounted poles?

Map Security Posted June 18, 2007 Author Posted June 18, 2007 Thks guys...like the idea of "mosquito system"...to cover the area would need 10-12units!! Regarding poles the school will not allow although once the stones and spray paint are utilised they may think different..... Looks like I will do with system Q CCT 500 style cams .At least if they get totalled it will not cost too much to replace!

Alpat Systems Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Dynamic have just started stocking a new IR Cam. http://dynamic-cctv.com/PDF%20files/DTV-EYEBALL.pdf
alterEGO Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 I'd probably go with those too. Or dynamics vld. What is the issue with poles? we just did a school with the same issues, poles are the only option IMO. they will just cover caged cams if not smash them.

ilkie Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 As a CCTV specialist I hope that I would recognise when CCTV is not the most appropriate answer to a client's problems. Schools are a classic example of the end user thinking that CCTV is the answer to all their problems and external CCTV rarely works. Look at the operational requirement. If you manage to gain reasonable images of the intruders what happens next? If the caretaker happens to be monitoring the system and sees intruders 'live' what is he expected to do? In my opinion target hardening is the route to go, fencing and aggressive planting to keep them out would be a more effective us of the Client's budget. Hope this opinion does not ruffle too many feathers! Ilkie
