Guest Keiko Posted April 15, 2004 Posted April 15, 2004 I am looking for an alarm panel with a large keypad. The problem is that most of my customers are getting a bit old now and their eye sight "aint what it used to be". They cant see the digits and icons on the keypad. It also affects people with Parkinsons disease, they cant manage to press the small keys. These people dont use their alarm systems any more, therefore they feel insecure and vunerable. Yet they still pay the 12 month maintenance fee for something they cant use!! I have phoned pyronix, ADE and other companies and got the same reply - there isnt the market for a large keypad. So why is there a market for telephones with large buttons and books with large print? Living in Peterborough, I am close to the head quarters of the R.N.I.B so I decided to visit them. They agree that there is a market for a large alarm keypad and know of no such product. They say thet the buttons should be no smaller then 3/4 of an inch square with bold print. There is a need for this product, If there is no such keypad available then a manufacturer should take the plunge and start production. There is a potential of 100% of the poorly sighted market! Anyone know of a large keypad? If not then any manufacturer interested out there? PS. Proxy readers wont do the job. The customer may need to part set the system or omit a zone, do a bell test, access the log or they may even need to input the code number to unset an alarm. Thanks for your time and help. Ian. ian.cant Posted April 15, 2004 Posted April 15, 2004 What about a keyswitch panel? I know its not as good, no log etc but would solve the problem.
norman Posted April 15, 2004 Posted April 15, 2004 Hi Keiko, Why not try a prox reader. Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
Guest securityconsultant Posted April 15, 2004 Posted April 15, 2004 Texecom do a large and I do mean large text version on there prem range The buttons stay the same size but the display is bigger it at least allows you to see whats happening Even I can read it without my specs on and thats no small thing
Guest Keiko Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 Hi all, I am looking for a keypad with large buttons cos' It's what the customers have asked for. I did try a proxy reader in one customers house but it didnt realy solve anything. They still needed to use the keypad at times. A key switch wouldnt work either - they probably wouldnt be able to get the key in the keyhole? (thats if they could even see the key hole) I normaly give the customers three standard programes on their alarms. Full set, Night set and garage only set. Any other program as a customer requests. Any help on this please? Interestingly though I have fitted a Pyronix Super II system in one customers house and both the husband and wife are totaly blind. We all know how small the buttons are on a Super II keypad but neither of the couple have ever complained!! Keiko.
Guest MKAlarms Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 How large is large? The Texecom Premier keys are about 3/4inch across - and a lot more positive than some of the small rubbery keys around.
InspectorGadget Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Texecom do a large and I do mean large text version on there prem range The buttons stay the same size but the display is bigger it at least allows you to see whats happening Even I can read it without my specs on and thats no small thing I can vouch for this. I bought a texecom system with the LCD/LCDL LARGE LCD keypads ( also has prox ) and they are huge!! in comparison to the system I replaced. In this instance I would say these are big enough for sausage fingers and with a large LCD are also easy to read - part of the reason I got them was in case I was woken up bleary eyed in the middle of the night I would still be abel to read it with "mole eyes"
