arfur mo
hi robert, as the kit is 14 years old, then i'd recommend to replace the external siren unit. it most likely will not have it's own independant cut off timer, so if you panel fails or cable is broken by rodents, then the siren could ring for several hours contravening the noise pollution act, with a possible fine of upto 5k. as the fault is on the siren tamper this may resolve it, if you competant enough and take all the safety precautions you could bypass th siren's tamper connections in the panel to see if it re-occurs (i'm not allowed to tell you how). newer control units have much better software and all sorts of options available, for instance the Gardtec CPX has a simple voice dialler included, so will call your mobile if you set it up properly. but don't just change you panel based on age if it serves the purpose and is fit for it, that would be like swapping out your trusty car because it has a flat spare tyre. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!! Alarmed
Hi Alan The bell tamper loop is just a N/C loop according to the manual so I have linked the tamper return to 0V on the panel as a test (this should bypass the bell tamper I think). NB I did this on battery (no mains to the panel). I also did a system test afterwards (walk test + tested the SAB sounds under alarm conditions ok) I will see what happens for a while regarding the fault. I may just replace the SAB if this runs clear for a few weeks. If not I guess its the panel thats the culprit. If it's the cable this will be a pain! What's the thinking on the best panel/SAB/remote-key-pad combo for

Alarmed
Hi All Thanks for the tips. I will have look around and post a suggested set up here befor I buy (for comment). Whats a good SAB/keypad combo for the Gardtec CPX490? Regards Robert replacing the external siren for what they cost is a prudent move imo as long as you are competant and safe at heights doing so, falling of high ladders is for stuntmen/women who enjoy doing such things.i like the Gardtec CPX490, i use the for upgrades or failure replacements, has a rudemetary but effective voice dialler built in, giving very good value and should fit your needs and budget well enough to allow you to splash out and replace the battery too. a little more sophisticated than the 'Big Shed'/Electrical Wholesaler options, but well worth the effort imo. regs alan
