PaulR3 Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 I have recently bought a ZT4 transmitter for my up and coming interest in CCTV. Forgive my obvious knievity, but on the rear of the unit there are 2 coax connections marked 'in' and 'out'. In and out to what?! Monitor? Camera? Receiver? I intend to go 'up the coax'. I also have a ZR3M receiver, P+T unit, camera + zoom lens and housing (all 230v).... I am unsure how to wire them all together, but that is another story!

Hi PaulR3, The ZT4 has been mentioned before in this thread The In and Out BNC sockets are indeed used for the 'camera' and monitor connections, although the camera (video out) is actually wired to the ZR3 (video in) first, and then the output from the telemetry receiver is wired using a co-ax to the ZT4 (hope that doesn't sound too confusing!). Just to mention, the lens won't be 230 / 240v, but I guess you already knew that Before you try to control the ZR3 + equipment with the transmitter, try pressing the test button to see if all the functions work correctly (I think it used to be a grey push cap switch ... not positive about the ZR3, but I know it was fitted on the ZR4 as standard) If you get stuck, just post back and we'll see what needs doing.
PaulR3 Posted July 2, 2007 Author Posted July 2, 2007 Thanks for your reply Doktor Jon. Sorry, I must be really stupid, but I am STILL confused at which (in or out) goes to the monitor and which goes to the receiver! Another minor problem, I take it all the power leads (ZR3 psu, housing heater, camera, p+t unit) are all wired together with one common lead going to the mains? I guess all that is then coming from the housing (I am putting the receiver in the housing) is a coax going to the in or out (!) of the ZT4 and a mains lead. There does not appear to be a 'test' button on the ZR3.

Not stupid at all PaulR3 I'm just trying to rack my addled brain in the hope that I can remember what's what on the ZR3 (my past experience using this kit revolves around the larger ZR4 receiver). First off, if I remember correctly, the connectors at the rear of the ZT4 should provide an indication for the video signal, not the control signal ... so Video OUT is the place to connect the monitor, and Video IN is used for the lead to the ZR3 receiver. Even if you connect them the wrong way around by accident, it shouldn't do any harm. On the ZR3, according to my notes, the video co-ax's (RG 59B/U) should be connected to the terminal block TB4 as follows:- Pin 1 - Camera conductor Pin 2 - Camera braiding Pin 3 - ZT3 braiding Pin 4 - ZT3 conductor The mains input to the ZR3 is connected to TB1 (preferably through a fused isolation switch, so you can turn the power off for servicing / fault finding etc.). If you wish, you can connect the camera + Heater power supply cables to the same terminal block or isolation switch. The terminal block TB2 is used to connect to the P/T and one unassigned Aux. function:- Pin 1 - Neutral Pin 2 - Pan Left Pin 3 - Pan Right Pin 4 - Tilt Up Pin 5 - Tilt Down Pin 6 & 7 - Aux As you say, with the receiver in the housing you'll just have a co-ax and a mains lead connection to the housing, plus a short multicore cable (minimum 6 cores) for driving the pan and tilt head; if you use an additional function such as a lamp, then obviously you'll need another cable just for that. I think you may be right about the missing test button
PaulR3 Posted July 3, 2007 Author Posted July 3, 2007 Doktor Jon, thanks for your help. It is all much clearer now.... I think! I will come back again after I've eloctrocuted myself or fried the ZR3 or something else goes wrong that I haven't thought of yet! Please just confirm that I can connect ALL the mains wires together on one terminal block with one lead going to the mains. See, I told you I might end up frying something (lacking self confidence!).

Please just confirm that I can connect ALL the mains wires together on one terminal block with one lead going to the mains. See, I told you I might end up frying something (lacking self confidence!). The simple answer is, you really shouldn't be connecting any mains leads to anything, unless you are confident you know what you are doing Be especially careful working with the ZR3 as there are mains points all over the board! That said, you only connect the 240v supply (via a switched fused spur) to the terminal block mentioned in my previous post, and the housing heater (provided of course it is 240v). Everything else ( P/T head, lens, camera) should be wired directly to the ZR3. Good luck, and be very very careful
