arfur mo Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Not a good example of stringing words together - what is Park time? he meant 'Golf' time, they say things differently up North of Watford regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
arfur mo Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 hi all, it's a vexed question but what i a 'good engineer'? in one persons eye's can bee seen as brilliant, and is treated as a total loser in another's view. it's not all just about the ability in fitting or fixing the kit to high standards, which are important even to me, but also customer relations, attitude, self presentation including having a wash more than once a month - wether you need it or not what is always hard to get over to most staff, is clients will remember the smallest of mistakes for a long while, a well crafted installation can be un-ravelled in the clients eyes for a simple dirty hand mark left on the emulsion when fitting a pir, or not waving the vac around before leaving. if they do clean up, they don't bother to ask the clients permission to borrow their machine, and then leave it full of brick dust and rubble to add insult to injury, and that really impresses the client (and yes, i do carry my own vac). on the other side of the coin is the way self respecting experienced engineers are often abused as stand-in supervisors. this was especially so when i worked for service departments in my now distant past. i'd go flat out and get my area up to scratch, and all buttoned down, all the routine servicing up to date (it was up to us to decide who and when we pm'd). then because my area was so quiet i was then seen as doing nothing for my keep. so i'd get pulled all over London and the home counties helping to clear up the many usually daft repeat fault calls, that the current area plum and his super could not fix. nett result, your reports if not careful drop your so called 'colleagues' in the ****, or yourself for lying in order to protect them. so you also start to get behind again with the routine servicing, get warning discipline letters for it. me being well versed in arguing my corner (now i bet you just won't believe that of me ) i'd then refuse to go off my patch without my supervisor's prior instruction - that made me ever so popular with the service controller, it brooked their 'authority' and looked to them like i had a large chip on my shoulder (as if), so they retaliate holding back any calls i did get till real late, or make daft appointments for 1st thing on the far side of my area. ends up it just adds to the general disillusionment felt and the perceived lack of respect for your best efforts, and even the best pay just don't cover all of that. i wonder if it's changed much, especially with sat tracking your every step? must help make you feel real trusted and respected regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!
