Guest anguscanplay
following a lively debate about this issue I have been getting more advice thus " garages are not special locations ( and so would`nt need part p for a fused spur ) UNLESS the supply for them comes from a special location " so it seems if the supply for the garage comes from the fuse board then were clear but if its spured from the kitchen , or if the fuse board is in the kitchen then we need to be certifying normal rules about testing prior to connection and issuing mwc still apply any clearer ? Angus hi Angus, thanks for the update, out of interest, my consumer unit is in the attached garage and this is fairly common practice, so effectively from the above the house is spurred from the garage. if the alarm panel is in the house say a spare bedroom cupboard, i assume it will need part 'p' certification even if i run in a dedicated feed to a separate RCD. regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!! amateurandy
so it seems if the supply for the garage comes from the fuse board then were clear but if its spured from the kitchen , or if the fuse board is in the kitchen then we need to be certifying So if, as in my house, the meter, fuses etc. are in a cupboard in the kitchen does this have any implications for otherwise "normal" work in the house, such as repairs or adding a spur? Guest anguscanplay
hi Angus, thanks for the update, out of interest, my consumer unit is in the attached garage and this is fairly common practice, so effectively from the above the house is spurred from the garage. if the alarm panel is in the house say a spare bedroom cupboard, i assume it will need part 'p' certification even if i run in a dedicated feed to a separate RCD. regs alan lol no the attached garage is part of the dwelling you only need part p if its in a " special " location - kitchen , bathroom or outside or is a new curcuit - so run it off the lights and your fine , run it from the c/u on its own breaker and your not ( what kind if upside down half asssed rule is that? ) So if, as in my house, the meter, fuses etc. are in a cupboard in the kitchen does this have any implications for otherwise "normal" work in the house, such as repairs or adding a spur? repairs and like for like replacement are ok as long as the work doesnt involve a curcuit within a " special " location but the rest of the rules apply - checking earths before starting etc , issuing minor works afterwards if the work is been done for reward hope that helps Angus ( apparently they clarified the rules late 2006 ! )
