Im a perfectionist so Ill keep at something till its right no matter what it costs me, maybe im being too picky and ive seen some //.B.W.F.// cctv installs but I have a cam in a room that has a bright large window at the opposite end, is in complete darkness one minute and flooded with light the next. Im not happy with the noise when the room is in darkness as the window is confusing the cam but my client is happy that they have eyes down there. Dont get me wrong its a general observation cam purely for seeing if anyone is messing at the snooker tables. I guess you can only make the equipment do what it can do, the human eye struggles in this room maybe im just being too picky.

shoot me if you want ( no not really ) but couldnt you move the camera to the other side of the room - like with the old SLR its better if the light comes from behind

Angus ( dont beat yourself up about it lol )

Ha ha wait till i find where in the uk you live!!!!! I thought of this, even suggested to the customer put if there pre wiring but they decided this was where they wanted it. It doesnt help this is an old factory warehouse with an asbestous (my spellin sucks!) so the less time im in the attic the better for me in the long run. I put it in my install notes that it should be located in that position but as I say their very happy I just dont wanna make rookie mistakes that if another installer saw it they'd laugh. They may knod their head in respect how knows, wish i knew a few installers!!!!!

chesterfield that double dutch to me!!!! I may rewire it in the future if they add another cam but as you say its pretty good and the customer is happy. the other reason for not putting it at the other side of the room was the camera I have wouldnt look good or really work with the ceiling type there.. Anyways enough excuses..!! If your ever in south west ireland give me a shout!!

My answer would be N.o1 because if you start off with a bad picture or slightly out of focus one its only gonna get worse once its gone through the recording prosses, and its prety embarrasing when you have to burn some crappy video recordings for the police for evidance. And i would advise customer to get another camera that way they are better covered for idetification if they ever needed to use as evidance.

TVX systems what a good idea by the time the picture had downloaded the intruder would have been long gone.

by poor picture i assume you mean noise or blurring on the images, if so and you chose/supplied/installed then you fix it with no arguments or winging.

or we get into what is expected v practacal scenario.

budget is king on most installs for the client, as they want the cheapest quote but often expect BBC broadcast quality results, usually forgetting your original best advice when they wanted cheaper.

the requirement to see all of a 100 acre field and to distinguish a number plate on the same camera at night is a typical request for instance, so you may fit a camera which has a very wide angle lens and see's all that field, but the client is unhappy about the faces or number plate recognition issue.

always best to state in you specification what the camera is there for and what risk it is designed to cover, if to see general movement then it won't be as good for recognition, go for recognition will mean less field of coverage from that same camera. they can't expect to watch the back entrance and also the cat 50 yards up the road.

as a guide i take shots with my mobile (it works approximately like a 3.6 gp lens), show the pic's which gives indication of the coverage and definition on a cheaper camera. if they still go budget, then they were told before signing up or ordering let alone any cheque's being issued, so end of your moral responsibility, but you can always offer to upgrade or add camera's and so keeps the transaction open honest and fair.

It comes down to cost matey.

How much did the fella spend on his system.

Not all cameras will supply you with "the tag on the shoe".

If the equipment is capable then I'd keep at it...

If it wasn't..............I'd just get the best from it that was possible.

Beware the fury of a patient man...

If you know the results are not as good as they should and could be, then I would recommend sorting it out, and getting the

correct results. Im not on about fine tuning to a ludicrous degree, just getting the results you know the system is capable of, and should be delivering.

If the customer is happy, so what... When the s**t hits the fan, or when someone else looks at the system, they will be looking at your work, and whoever looks at it could well see its not good enough, and thats a bad advertisement for your business.

The customer could be happy with the results, but could view the results from another firms similar system, and realise there system is not up to scratch, chances are you will lose future work then.

If your happy with a substandard system out there, associated with your work, then fine - otherwise do the best you can.

Not to mention how would you feel if something did happen, and a rapist/murderer/child abducter/whatever gets away scott free all because you didnt bother getting the system to work as it should have?

Or if something really big happens that hits the news, and your footage is analysed and shown all over the press? Not a good advert for you if its **** footage. IF it wsa great footage, you could get your name on that footage, and get the publicity.
