PWSecurity Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Hi I am currently working for a company and have 10 years experience in the industry. I have a very good level of CCTV knowledge for Install and Service. I have Access control knowledge too but my main passion is CCTV. I am getting close to starting out on my own. I am looking for contacts and advice to get me started. The main reason for me coming on here is to try and get some contacts for work. We all have to work to keep the Mortgage man happy. Please let me know anything that might be of use and maybe introduce me to some clients or agencies to get myself some work. I live in Hampshire and am used to traveling the breath of the country for work. As i said i am still employed but would like some info to get me to finally break away and work for my self.

Hi Have you thought about starting off sub contracting that way you might start getting some useful contacts. You could soon start building up a customer base from that. Hope all goes well for you. There is definitely a potential for lot of work out there. Pete Peter Robinson Freelance M:07889038650

Be careful, if you do this and only do work for your present employer, the Tax man may think you are trying a fiddle. If you do go down this line make sure you are working for just one company. Also quote for works and supply materials (cable, containment etc.) Otherwise you may be accused of being selfemployed with only one customer and so effectively employed. The tax man is closing loopholes of this kind. Good luck sub contracting is a good way to go, I come from the electrical side of the construction business. RichardP
arfur mo Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 as someone who lauched out on his own some time ago, my advice is for very good paper work especially with your accounts - boring as hell and often done in the small hours but absolutely vital. you can be the best engineer in the world but fail in busness because "i'll do that invoice later" syndrome. after that, sub contracting is fine but be careful when cultivating clients that your not stealing from the hand that fed and trusted you, bad news if you tell their clients next time call me 1st as i'll be cheaper, as tempting as it might be your ethics will be brought into question. nothing wrong if you go into a sweet shop for a can of soda, guy ask's about camera's, or an employee/other subby ask's for their home or other works in hand, but best to set out the 'battle lines' beforehand with you main contractor, they will respect and trust you more for it too. best of good luck regs alan If you think education is difficult, try being stupid!!!!

I am out on my own and fully booked unto December however I would not recommend it as you NEVER get any time away from work anyone who runs their own firm and says that thay switch off at 5pm is a LIAR you are always thinking about work and it is a PITA also even if you are off you are never totally off an being the boss means that THE BUCK STOPS with you and if the //.B.W.F.// hits the fan others will always pass it to the boss.

amateurandy Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 THE BUCK STOPS with you Some of us like it that way and can cope with it, indeed relish it. B) If it ain't for you, stop doing it. But for loads of us it's what we've always wanted. Maybe we're control freaks.............
