9800 Gone Quite, Any Advice?

Hi,

My Scantronic 9800 from about 1992 has suddenly stopped working properly.

When I press any buttons on my keypad, the internal speaker has gone really quiet. Also none of the PIRs flash red anymore.

When I try to set the alarm, the control panel just flashes through the zones and the setting buzzer sounds (again very quietly) but it doesn't set.

I have tested the bell and that doesn't work either.

I have tested the internal mains fuse, the 2 circuit fuses and they seem okay. I tested the battery and that is showing full power 12v, I even tried a different battery but that didn't help.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Blue.

Have you checked the output from the transformer. If it is faulty and giving out too low power, this could cause malfunction on the panel

15yr old...... are alcopops the problem?

oh the joys of the thermial fuse

I tested the battery and that is showing full power 12v,

a charged battery is 13.5 vdc (ish)

Thanks for the quick replies.

Are you trying to say it could be the fuses after all, even though they seem to test okay? Maybe I should change them anyway?

A thermal fuse (or thermal cut-off) is a "one-shot", non-resettable, temperature-sensitive device that provides ultimate temperature protection in safety critical circuits. They are mainly defined by their temperature setting but also by the current rating, which is the maximum continuous current that can be applied.

Someone told me I was ignorant and apathetic, I don't know what that means, nor do I care.

Now I understand! So basically the board is fried then?

Anyone know any reasonably priced engineers in the Stockport area, I think this could be expensive... :(

this old scanny tat has electronic auto reseting fuses?

might be your devices or cabling might be the endstation

last pmv'ed?

something has blown the thermal fuse. turn mains off, disconnect the battery, take 12v + out for bells and detection devices just leaving keypad powerd up on it's own. Now power up the panel fuse should of reset. You will then need to find if you have a short on any of the powerd devices, could be just an overload situation.
