Paragon Plus

I have a Paragon plus control box that has a fault showing. I've checked all the bits and pieces and can't find anything wrong except the strobe light in the bell box appears to be blown. Can this be the problem and can it be replaced, it looks to be soldered in. The system was fitted about 6 years ago by a local company and has worked ok up till now. Any help appreciated.

Hello SC,

Tbh i would advise an engineer in this situation to determine what the cause could be. The strobe could be the problem and a new bell is required anyway. Your batteries should be replaced.

Phone round for a price.

cheers

The strobe is corroded and black at one end.

excuse the banter of my estemmed associates  ,

it would be far safer to advise you the strobe develops several thousand volts when in operation, so not a thing the untrained should play with, even 'we' don't often as a rule and just replace the whole unit.

a shock off it is unlikely kill you unless you have a heart problem or other medical problem, but could cause you to be startled and so fall from your ladder. the strobe not flashing is not to say this high voltage is not present to your unwary fingers.

all that said it's not the reason for you panel showing a fault, you need to decide if it is a tamper problem (having had the siren open this might be the case) or a panic button pressed for instance. could be one of many causes and you either need to work through your circuits methodically, or better still call a local engineer in.

Thanks for your reply Arfur Mo,

I'm glad the strobe isnt the problem and appreciate your safety advice.

After checking the fuses in the control box and a visual inspection of the sensors and visible cable, I thought this may have been the problem as this fault developed out of the blue.

I replaced the batteries whilst the lids were off as these were 6 years old.

I guess I'll have to scratch my head for a bit longer before calling in an engineer.

as a pointer your zones will be wired i think on this panel as 'conventional' so on you meter you should get a vertual short circuit if the zone is 'set' and not in alarm, same will go for the tamper circuit.

it is often easier for a non engineer to mark the zone cable's carefully and remove them from the panel one at a time fitting wire links in replacement and see if the panel is then 'happy', restore each zone one at a time.

please be very careful when inside the panel, as lethal mains potential is available and we don't know the quality or care taken by the original installer, so please for your safety sake, isolate the mains from the controls before attempting any investigative works.
