Guest Sonic Posted April 24, 2004 Posted April 24, 2004 Hi I have replaced my garage alarm panel (a Scantronics 9448+) with a new Optima G3 Compact The Bell Box I have left the same, however I have a couple of queries re the wiring of the old system, to the new one (the reason for the change in panels, is that I dont have engineers codes etc, and wanted something I had full control over & manuals too ) On the old panel I have two connections marked E E, It looks to me like they are used on the door contact (which has been wired as the same zone as the PIR, and used as an entry/exit point Ah, I think I may have answered my own question, is this correct on 9448+ panels that E E is Entry Exit ? The other query is that the PIR has two connections to the board marked A/T, I assume that these are the Tamper wires? The last qeury is more a case of have I done it right (with the Bell Box) The Bell Box is labelled as such, and was wired to the 9448+ as such STB Green STR Hold Off + Red 12V Hold Off - Black 0V RTN - Brown TR TRG - Blue Bell On the Optima I have wired it as follows STB Green Strobe - Hold Off + Red Bell D Hold Off - Black SCB A RTN Brown SCB T TRG Blue Bell - Bearing in mind the Bell box never actually worked when the alarm went off, only if complete power was cut from the Panel Any help would be appreciated Regards Steve
Guest Samholland Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 Your sounder connection appear to be correct. But could be a problem with cable. Try removing the Red wire + hold then outside sounder should sound if its all working properly and the battery in the external box is ok/connected. Then reconnect. Then Try taking the blue out of Bell TRigger - and breifly connecting to -HOLD OFF this should also trigger the sounder. If all this works Then its possible the New panel isn't triggering the outside sounder. Set the alarm ringing using a zone as exit entry could cause a delay. Some panels operate 2ply methods where the inside rings first for a set period then the outside. Or try BELL TEST from the user manual..# All the rest of your problems you seem to have answered yourself. Hope this helps SAM
Guest Sonic Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 Hi Sam Thanks for the reply The new panel is working fine with the Sounder Box, it is now wired correctly, I think it just wasnt wired correctly on the old panel, or as you say, a delay before it goes off, but with having no manuals, or knowing how it was setup, I was on a bit of a lost cause Still havent figured out the E E connections on the old panel, as there isnt an E E on the new panel It was connected to the door contact, which was/is connected off the PIR, as both are entry/exit Steve
Guest Deryck Tintagel Posted April 26, 2004 Posted April 26, 2004 Not familiar with the G3 but I have fitted the Accenta Mini 8. On newer panels the entry exit zones are programmable - could Zone 1 or Zone 8 just depending on how you want to set it up. Older panels such as the Scantronic had dedicated EE zones. What I would do is set the door to EE and connect the PIR to another zone set up as an intermediate zone - also known as walk-through or timed inhibit. This will allow access via the door but an intrusion through a window or roof will cause an immediate alarm by the PIR.
Guest oldtimer Posted April 27, 2004 Posted April 27, 2004 EE on the Santronic is the exit entry zone. I was a bit confused withe regards to your door contact and PIR. If they were wired to the same zone you should put them on seperate zones.Even without altering the G3 basic programm zone 1 is factory set to EE and zone 2 set as a walkthrough or hold off zone. When you leave the building you may avtivate the pir when you set the panel hence why the pir holds off whilst the exit/entry zone(1) is timing out. The only problem you will have is if you try to set the system when you go to bed. It will set ok but you will set off a full alarm when you rise in the morning as the panel expects to see the door activate first. This can can be resolved by changing the program on zone 2 from walkthrough to EE
Guest Sonic Posted April 27, 2004 Posted April 27, 2004 Thanks for all the info The G3 is in my garage, and not in the house (seperate alarm for the house, thats almost complete now too, much easier tho, as I cabled it all up myself ) Ive worked out the door contact now, and wired that in correctly into a seperate zone, and have made it a timed zone, and it all works a treat now, thankfully the PIR is a Dual one, but is wired as the E/E point on the G3, basically its all just enough time for me to punch the code in before setting everything off, which is ideal for all the help Steve
DGMarsden Posted April 30, 2004 Posted April 30, 2004 Good Luck with your new system. Good choice of domestic panel! Dave
