wewuh Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Hello everyone and thank you taking the time to read my post I have inherited an //.Large National Installer.// Galaxy 8/16+ alarm system that i do not really use. I have been in the property for about 5 years but the alarm has always been switched off. Recently the galaxy panel has been making a very loud bleep or chirp and I can't switch it off! I have tried entering my code to switch alarm off but no joy. There does not seem to be any real pattern to but it goes off every five minutes at any time of the day, even at night where there is no movement in house If anyone has any ideas how I can switch this off I would be most appreciated Regards Neil.

Hi wewuh, Short of disconnecting the mains and taking a sledgehammer to it, you're almost certainly going to need an engineer. It's quite possibly a backup battery problem, but one of the pro's on here will no doubt come along later to comment on that. Whatever it is you're not going to be able to do it yourself. By the way, Forum rules (you have read them haven't you?) say no double-posting so delete your duplicate entry ASAP please before someone gets upset about it. That panel is a professional (non-DIY) unit so maybe you should call "Large National Installer" and demand they remove it (*free of charge of course). If the contract on it terminated they should really have decommissioned it, but who knows what the previous occupant did in that respect? There's been many a debate on here about ownership of the equipment in this situation, some would say it may still belong to the alarm company, but if you purchased the house with it it's probably yours in law.
wewuh Posted September 26, 2007 Author Posted September 26, 2007 Hi, Thank you for the detailed reply. I contacted the company that provided the system to the previous owner and confirmed that the system does belong to me but is out of contract, it will cost me in the region of
1019641 Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Are you sure it's the alarm, Have a really good look around for smoke detectors and check it's not the battery etc. You would not believe the amount of times this type of reported "fault" is found to be a duff battery in a smoke detector. amateurandy Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Surely there must be another way?? Well (even if it's actually a smoke alarm beeping) you could try a claim against the previous owner for the costs of proper decommissioning. Things like that should be sorted out propertly at time of sale. Basically those systems are designed for professional installation with ongoing maintenance. So you either put it back on contract - try 3 or more local firms for quotes, not just the installer - or you pay to get it properly decommissioned (again get some quotes). Leaving it as is is not sensible, it could easily false alarm if it's not been maintained and then what would you do?
wewuh Posted September 26, 2007 Author Posted September 26, 2007 Confident it is not the smoke detector, chnaged the battery, disconnected it and still the beeping can be heard.
morph Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 Sounds like a smoke detector issue is there more than one in the house? Have you checked the log on the alarm to see if anything is showing up?
